It makes me laugh that the amount of people who decry a newspaper must actually read it first.

Quite right. I used to say the same about Adolf Hitler.

Look, if you don't like him, don't keep listening to his speeches.

Simples!

I don't think mrmcfister's point is someone is making him read it, but the culture of stepping on a family's grief to sell papers. To be fair to the Daily Mail, it isn't just them that do it.

As for reading the Daily Mail, even if you despise the way they go about things you are doing yourself a disservice by not occasionally absorbing what they write, nor garnering opinions they hold, for two reasons: the obvious one being 'know thy enemy' and the second, and most important, being that an alternative opinion should always be sought to challenge your own.

Firstly, allow me to agree with you regarding the awful, ghoulish exploitation of the grief of that poor woman. Welcome to, "The media", run by, in my opinion, the scum of the Earth.

However, leaving your post aside for a moment, what troubles me, is the age old, orchestrated "Hatred" of the Daily Mail. I too used to, "Hate" the Daily Mail, after all it was the done thing to do, you hated the Mail and you loved Ben Elton and maybe like me you always read the Mirror, even when it was owned by that filthy crook, Robert Maxwell. Then I realised that ALL the media is playing us like a fiddle, they all have their own axe to grind, in other words they are ALL total cunts.

I'd hated the Mail, but never actually read it, I hated the Mail because I had been told to hate it, by "right on" Lefties, of which I was one myself. Now I have stopped allowing myself to be so manipulated by the blind and stupid proponents of political dogma, I read anything to hand and buy none.

I used to read the Sunday Times until I realised that I was being spoon fed, arch cunt Rupert Murdoch's view of the World. Their tacit support for every action of the American war machine, Israel, Tony Blair and Dubya, none of these could do any wrong. This editorial policy spread to The Sun, except with an extra sprinkling of hatred for the Unions.

The Mirror was just unreadable with it spineless support for New Labour and the rest spewed out their usual support for the status quo, Afganistan, "The war on terror", hatred of the EU and Brussels. Even the Guardian, stalwart of the, "Right on" brigade, but bound and gagged by it's slavish obedience to Political Correctness, just annoyed me.

It was at this point that I started to notice that the only paper that ACTUALLY bad mouthed ALL authority, was the Daily Mail. They rubbish everyone, The Tories, New Labour, the Yanks, Israel, Brussels, the French, bankers, MP's and the Scots!

Yes, they are bitter and twisted and write like, "The Major" from "Fawlty Towers" might have written. It shows you the power of the media in this country, when it is in fact the Daily Mail that becomes the only "Radical" newspaper. The only paper that will one minute attack a union leader and then the next a crooked banker and the next a Tory MP. Then the next day support Julian Assange, demand the repeal of George W Bush's, "Extradition Act", expose another City crook and perhaps a benefits cheat. You see, The Sun ONLY ever exposes the benefits cheats NOT the city cheats.

My only point is this. Don't let others TELL you what you should read. Don't let others shepherd you into their pens of political clap trap. Read and watch what you want and make your own decisions. We do not live in North Korea!.

I will now be torn apart for admitting the heinous crime of having read, "The Daily Mail". In the Middle Ages, those same people would have had me burned at the stake. I say unto you all, rise up and rid yourselves of the shackles placed on you by the BGAFD Thought Police. Read and watch anything YOU want, but just remember what ever it is you are reading, whether it is The Mail, The Telegraph or The Guardian, somone, somewhere is trying to control your strings and make you dance to their tune. Remember, they are ALL cunts!

I once got set upon by a gang of looney left, right on lesbian 'wimmin' (seriously, I was at the FBU LGTG members meeting) For daring to suggest that "It's printing the news you're more sympathetic to" when one of them tried to tell me the Morning Star was the only paper printing "the truth" about the war in Iraq.

We have need of you again, great king.

I also find there's this idea that saying "In the Daily Mail", "Daily Mail readers", "Oh, the Daily Mail" etc in a dismissive style is being used more and more as a trump card that wins any argument. A version of Godwins Law, if you like, which of course doesn't stand up to a moments scrutiny.

Until we have a proper name for it, here's a picture.
