I'll hazard a guess that the majority will say they like them both, perhaps equally.

But can anyone give a definitive answer and reason as to which is better? The Godfather or The Godfather Part II?

I'd have to say they are BOTH equally brilliant!

For me, G1 was the best, mainly because of the technology used, the age of the actors, it was dark and moody, and groundbreaking, two was fantastic, 3 was pants, and more akin to die hard.

I dont think Godfather 3 was as bad as everyone says. I saw it at the cinema when it came out and mores tothe point my former english teacher made a sizeable sum in compensation for them nicking his premise.

I think Godfather 1 pips in as the better one but Godfather 2 is better in a different way. I notice a lot of movies are doing the prequels as sequels route

In both films, the acting and scripts were fantastic. However The Godfather was more coherent as a film I agree that Gofather II was a really good prequel, but maybe slightly bitty. Nitpicking of course, cos they were both great, unlike part III in which I felt let down, despite Al P's performance. Doesn't necessarily make it a bad movie, just not in the same class.
