Very nice Mr McFister ! Easily my favourite Christmas song though I
came to it late. Composed by the frenchman, Adolphe Adam, it is well
regarded in France and Catholic countries but still uncommon in
protestant churches where we tend to warble "Hark the Herald Angels
Sing" and suchlike as hymns of divine joy at Christ`s birth. I first heard
"O Holy Night" on the Andy Williams TV show back in the Sixties; it has
been very popular in the USA for generations....boy tenor-sopranos like
the King`s College Choir, superb as they are, are not the best to hear
this song. Try also the duet on youtube between Placido Domingo and
the young Charlotte Church. Divine indeed !!
