Rocky III - not a very good film..

Post by max_tranmere »

I just watched this on TV, and I thought it was very poor. I saw it years ago and, for some reason, I remembered it being better than it came across this evening. Rocky's opponent Apollo Creed, who Rocky beat in the second film (and the two of them didn't like each other at all) bizarelly becomes Rocky's trainer in the third film. Rocky's is initally beaten by Clubber Lang, who dislikes Apollo and Apollo dislikes him. Apollo then wants Rocky to beat Clubber Lang in a re-match - Rocky and Apollo not only become pals but Apollo trains him too. I really think this film was "written to order". They seemed to have no credible story, so they wrote a sub-standard story just to make the film. What do other people think of Rocky III?

Can't argue with you, it was rubbish, but not as bad as the further episodes, bringing me back to my old argument about endless sequels that ruin a good original idea through association with what becomes a franchise.

The first one had heart, then after that they are written by committee with the studio that finances these things.

If the world is full of pimps and ho's then movie stars are the elite ones for how much they make.

Sly was lucky to make the first one at all then he also won an Oscar and the rest as they say was history. Fair play to the guy though . I do like a lot of his films. First Blood and Cliff Hanger to name a couple. Demotion man and Rambo 2 and 3 make me cringe but Cop Land was great. Hated Judge Dredd

Cobra was so bad they should burn the negatives and erase that film from existence.

Cant knock the man for having a great career

Cop Land was probably his best film and he actually "acted" half decent in it.

I remember just how huge Sly was in the 1980's, one of the bigest names around. I don't think anyone else in that decade starred in as many huge films - except Harrisson Ford and Arnie. I watched the recently made Rambo film, starring Sly aged 63 or something. I thought that was crap. I've heard the latest Rocky film is good though.

You managed to say all that and forget the Expendables Max !happy!

Nothing beats Arnie in Terminator 2 or Bruce for Die Hard. watched it the other day and still love that movie
