I was watching Question Time on Iplayer last night with Ken Clarke and New Labour golden boy Chukka Umunna. Now, at first I was quite impressed, he seemed reasonable, articulate and well informed, but then over a period of time I started to go right off him, he was so fucking oily and smooth.........almost "Blairesque". Then he started doing a most peculiar thing, just like our very own David Johnson (bless him) he started spouting obscure facts and figures at all and sundry. He had facts and figures to "prove" anything and everything, everyone would be rich under New Labour and there'd be enough cash for everyone etc etc. He even tried to trip up old Ken by having sneakily discovered exactly the number of unemployed people in his constituency, naturally Ken didn't have a clue and Chukka told him with glee. However in spite of all this, Chukka came across as transparent and dishonest, in my opinion.
At the end of the show I asked myself, "Who would I buy a used car from, Chukka or Ken and I thought, certainly not from Chukka.
What is it with New Labour and all these cunts in sharp suits nowadays? Suits these days, say, "Spiv". People who work in PC World wear suits, car dealers wear suits, City traders wear suits. New Labour! Go back to the Michael Foot school of fashion, lose the fucking suits and go back to duffle coats and corduroys!

Yeah, I can imagine when he started quoting a few facts, you lost the thread of the argument. Misinformed ranting is more your thing. Hence the Daily Mail is clearly your favourite read.
"He had facts and figures to "prove" anything and everything, everyone would be rich under New Labour and there'd be enough cash for everyone etc etc. "
He didn't say anything like that. You must have been having a confused moment, Jim.
Why on earth should quoting the huge percentage increase in the number of unemployed people in Clarke's constituency be "obscure"? Isn't that what an MP's supposed to do, know what is going on in his constituency?
Poor Jim Slip. So much to say and so out of his depth. Bless him!
!wink!

Met the guy a few times, you could not meet a nicer bloke.
Re: Chukka Umunna
In case you hadn't notice, through your selective viewing, when figures and specifics are available like the financial crisis, which has now become the Global but mostly European financial crisis sound-bite for the Tories, people use them to get a message across.
YOU even use 'specifics' in your tag:

With regards to what some wear, that is just pathetic but no real shock coming from the world according to Jim, who I guessing has one rule for him and his lot and another rule for others.

Gotta disagree Jim, I'd go for chukkie's motor, who would want one smelling of piss and cigar smoke, and just imagine what would be in the CD player, Oscar fucking peterson or Dizzy Galespie......mmmmmmmmm, nice

I haven't trusted Chukka from the first time I saw him on TV, before he joined the gravytrain known as Parliament. He's far too smooth, you can just tell he loves himself, but I don't have to join in the lovefest. They say you make up your mind about someone in less than a second, and in his case it's true.

Lizard
Mind, Ken Clarke is a great jazz lover. He even co-hosted a radio jazz review show.
Anybody who has Sonny Rollins as one of his heroes, can't be completely without good points.
Cheers

Re: Chukka Umunna/ man of the people?
I'm sure it's all a fabrication and Tory lies and the winged chair has been Photoshopped on, like Lizard does all the time, but if its true, I can't see this helping his case to be the "Ginsters pasty of New Labour" ( I just made that up)

Nice one, Jimbo. Keep em coming!

PS Got anything else in the Daily Mail anywhere near as funny?

And there, I'm afraid, is the trouble with too many people. The Americanisation of Britain is almost complete. I can take the slang, I love the music and expressiveness, but I hate the fast-food and distrust of anyone who seems slightly intelligent. That's why stupid people are constantly voted into office in America. If you have 'facts and figures' and seem articulate you cannot be trusted. It is well known that Pres. Bush Snr. was pretty articulate and was advised to appear dumber than he really was to gain popularity. Madness.
As for old Chukka, don't you think it would be better to find out if his facts and figures were at least accurate/relevant before basing your opinion on him? 'Facts and figures' may be at his disposal because he did his homework and cares more than other politicians who can't be arsed. Then again, it could all be about spinning the figures and misleading people. If his 'facts and figures' are wrong I'm sure some journalist who's worth his/her salt will find out.
