Who's stupid idea was the Euro?

Post by max_tranmere »

I am genuinely interested in the anxwer to this question, as I don't know. It looks like the Euro is about to collapse and there will be consequences for all EU countries, and others in the western world too. Does anyone know who's idea the whole thing was?

As far as I know, it was the price the French insisted on for agreeing to German reunification. The Huns wanted to keep their beloved Deutchemarks, but they wanted to reunite their country even more. Once again the Napoleonic impulses of the French state have brought Europe to its knees. My only hope is that they finally bring the whole corrupt EU edifice crashing down. How does that thing about hubris and nemesis go again?

Robches is talking bullshit ! Just think how many countries are linked to the euro ? Essentially its most of mainland Europe. To suggest that
all their economies are going to implode is nonsense. Th euro has
meant a slightly different coin in each country and has been related to
some extent to their own financial situation. I would agree that too many countries accepted it and that some, like Greece , are fucked (for
domestic reasons) and the rest have to re-think how this relates to them
but to blame the euro, as if it is the mother of all ills, is equally stupid.
Europe and the UK are in for a tough ride right now. So is most of the world. So lets not start blaming it all on the euro. Thats wrong and chlidish.

Thank you for explaining that to me in such a helpful manner Frank. I had not realised that all the Euro represented was a slightly different coin in each country. How silly of me not to have realised this. I expect that Jacques Delors is also labouring under a similar misapprehension, as he seems to believe the project was flawed from the start. I hope you will write to him to correct this mistake.

The EU politicians are isolated from economic reality and I doubt they will ever be capable of understanding the real world.

So now fiscal union is the answer? These buffoons expect us to believe they know what they are doing? !deadhorse!
