UK women, "Fattest in Europe?"

Post by jimslip »

Is this just another outrageous slur put about by Brussels anti British pen-pushers?

Well, the Daily Mail, since 1992, and other tabloid rags have been telling us how disgusting the likes of Kate Moss, Victoria Beckham, Kate Beckinsale and Keira Knightley are for their thinness.

How dangerous it is for our young girls to have aspirations of slimness and how irresponsible these 'skinny' celebs are due to their role-model status. How being skinny means you're not a 'real' woman (they're experts in genetics now). 20 years on and they still scream everytime a celeb looks a little slimmer than 6 months ago (despite it might just be the camera angle, the clothes or trick of the light).

I only searched 'painfully thin' into the Daily Mail search and this is just from this year:

And this is just one search-term on one media website. Society has steadily got fatter but instead of battling it they've turned it around so it's thin people who are in the wrong. Much easier to keep munching away and poke the finger at the 'skinny freaks'!

Another bug-bear of mine is women's dress sizes. Apparently anything under a size 12 makes you 'skinny', 'boyish' unappealing. What nonsense. Size 12-14 is supposedly 'curvy', 'feminine' and 'sexy'. Except today's dress sizes are, on average, 1-2 sizes bigger than the label says. A size 12 in the 60s and 70s would be an 8-10 now. The same goes for a lot of men's clothes too. Try it yourself: look at the waist size of your jeans and then measure your waist. I'm a 31" waist right now and have 30" jeans that I need a belt to hold up. I've found Levis are the closest to my actual waist. It's marketing to make you feel slimmer and better about yourself and people fall for it.

I saw a programme many years ago where they sent women shopping and they'd secretly changed the labels on identically-sized jeans and dresses. The women picked the dresses/jeans that had the smaller size label, despite there being no actual difference in size, material, brand or price.

Maybe in another 30 years the Vanessa Feltzs of this world will be 'painfully thin' according to the Daily Mail.

I must point out that I'm in no way ranting and love fat people as much as normal-sized people. Those skinny people can fuck right off, though. I don't want anyone I know becoming anorexic. I can't walk down the high street without tripping over anorexics!

I don't think it's just the Daily Mail that is suggesting that, "Fat" is "Normal", it seems to be a general trend. Do you remember when they tried to hoist Michele McMannus on us as a pop idol, fashion icon, for all to adore? It is interesting that the media finds it acceptable to mock and laugh at the slim, but does not dare laugh at the obese. I presume they have beome a "Sainted group" under the terms of political correctness.

Michelle McMammoth on a swimsuit shoot, is this now the norm?
