Re: Republican election candidates
I am hoping Obama gets back in though it will be with a reduced majority.
Anything is better than this pack of Republican disasters !
Re: Republican election candidates
There was a Storyville docu about Eliot Spitzer on BBC4 last night. I think it's available via Iplayer
Not a Republican nor a politician in the strictest sense, but I think you'd find it a worthwhile watch if you didn't see it.

It's what happens when you get a duopoly of politics. Either the opposing sides become more and more polarised or they both drift to the centre where no one can distinguish who's who.
Not healthy democracy imho - but what do I know? I voted for AV!

Yeah I saw Spitzer on Newsnight the day before the Storyville programme ran. The short history before his interview gave the impression that he was someone who a number of countries including the UK and US could do with in order to take on the excesses of big business. He appeared tenacious and effective in the way he dealt with big business that had overstepped the line.
Brought low by a sex scandal alas.

Frank/Sam/Number 6.
The issue is that it is really difficult for any leader to get re-elected when the country has been in the middle of the worst recession anyone can remember. The leader of the country always gets the blame whether justified or not.
The scary thing is that one of these Republican numskulls might actually get elected.
Stuff of nightmares!

I watched the Enron documentary last week - 'The Smartest Guys In The Room'. Some of the misdeeds apparent in Enron's case were targeted by Spitzer which makes me think there's a much bigger picture in terms of the global financial crisis which blew up in 2008 but the fuse must have been lit 10 years earlier ?

I am sure that is true. Of course, Enron had the triple A rating from all the credit rating agencies who hold European nations to ransom now. The lunatics appear to be running the asylum.
As for Spitzer, anybody who threatens to "destroy" the chairman of Goldman Sachs if they step out of line, would get my vote!
