I love Poundland! In fact it has crossed my mind on more than one occasion to do all my Christmas shopping there! In Budapest we have a "Euroland" which sells stuff worth one Euro for..........One Euro! Which defeats the object, Poundland is a success because they sell stuff worth much more than a Pound for a Pound.

If you are doing any DIY check out their building section eg:

Double pack epoxy resin........?1.00
Araldite sold at b&q...............?4.00

All tools, decorating stuff etc, all ?1.00. one thing to watch out for is their batteries are crap, they are not Alkaline batteries, just cheapy Chinese rubbish so best avoided.

In an ideal world, you'd have a Poundland sited next door to a Lidl.

I guess that?s right.

I remember a couple of years ago I went to my old primary school to cast my vote at the General Election. They used my old classroom as the Polling Station.

It was the first time I?d been in that room for forty plus years.

I was amazed how small it was, completely different to my memory.

Ok then, a Lidl, sited next door to a Poundland, sited next door to Harrods Food Hall!

More fool you mate.

I have bought Armani suits that usually cost hundreds, new Jaeger shirts that would normally cost ?80 a throw, Hilfiger, Ted Baker, and Diesel jeans for peanuts and picked up deleted DVDs that sell for high prices for next to nothing from charity shops. If you don't want this gear, there's all the more for me.

Poundland is great for branded toiletries, chocolates, books and DVDs and 35mm film.

Your loss.

I agree, it doesnt bother me for a second if I have to push my way through a pack of the morbidly obese, in Poundland, buying giant bags of crisps and enormous bottles of Coke for a quid, so I can get a bargain!

Why on Earth would I want to buy stuff at Sainsbury's for ?3 or ?4 quid, when I can buy the same at Poundland for a quid? I'm glad to say that this irrational devotion of some to pay more for goods for no other reason than snob appeal, is finally in the wane. My local Lidl is now packed all the time and the cars in the car park are all new, so it is not the poor who are shopping there.

On a shop costing ?150 at Sainsburys, the same shop at Lidl would be well under ?100. Even if I was a millionaire twice over you wouldn't find me needlessly wasting money when I didn't have to and for what? To make Lord and Lady Sainsbury and the Tesco crooks even richer than they already are?

Sod that!

I've come across the same attitude to Wilkinsons. It might not be everybody's cup of tea but I use it for a lot of basics like dog food and shampoo and also for things like SDHC cards. If others want to look down their nose before they cut it off to spite their face, let them :)
