Yes he raised loads of money for charity but I found him rather cold and secretive. He could be aggressive too.Think he may have been gay and unable to be open...bit like Kenneth Williams in some respects?

Well 'Ouz about that then!

My claim to fame is having proudly helped to maintain and service his mechanical chair where all the bits like the tea draw would come out of!

Great Character.

My girlfriend once kicked him out of a fish & chip restaurant in Scarborough she was working in because he took his take away into the restaurant - Sticks to the rules my missus!!

Stuart Hall on 5Live just described him as a 'loner'.

More lonely than loner i feel. I watched his programme with Louis Theroux a few years back,he came across as a guy desperate for company and friendship.

A real character and classic English eccentric. I remember Autocar interviewed him about his love of Rolls Royce cars. He said he had owned 29 but the first 3 didn't really count as they were second hand!!

He used to go to the same school as me and was taught by the same english teacher albeit a great many years apart of course. When I was at the same school Jim'll Fix It was in full swing by then
