THere has been very little news from Libya of late.
"Scores of cars, buses and trucks piled high with household goods were lined up at NTC checkpoints on the outskirts of Sirte on Sunday. The fleeing residents said the situation in the city had deteriorated to such an extent that there was little food and no water or electricity. We couldn't leave our homes because of the shelling; we had to leave the city," Ahmed Hussein, travelling with his wife, mother-in-law and two children, told Associated Press news agency.
Another man, Ali, said he and his family were leaving because "we are caught between Nato bombings and shelling by rebels". "Nato, in particular, is bombing at random and is often hitting civilian buildings," he told the AFP news agency.
The Geneva based ICRC says that in Sirte itself, people are dying in the main hospital because of a shortage of oxygen and fuel. The hospital is facing a huge influx of patients, medical supplies are running out and there is a desperate need for oxygen. On top of that, the water reservoir has been damaged," the ICRC said in a statement. Several rockets landed within the hospital buildings while we were there," the leader of the ICRC team, Hichem Khadhraoui, told AFP. "We saw a lot of indiscriminate fire. I don't know where it was coming from," Mr Khadhraoui said.
PS THe backstory. Gaddafi is a murderous dictator and the Allies are only involved to protect Libyan civilians. Well, some of them, it seems.
Cheers

You could be right..
Oh that explains it, the weather. I thought I caught sight of Orla Guerin in a flak jacket on Blackpool prom!
And I mistakenly thought it might be the majority of the great, totally, independent UK press looking the other way when the poor Libyan civilians get a pasting from the brave, wonderful goodies i.e. the rebels and Nato.
On reflection, I suspect that neither of us could believe that there would be a bias in war reporting. Could we?
Cheers

I do wonder now and then when a big news story breaks the country in question is flooded by tv crews. So much it seems the locals have to move out!!
You get one over paid news reader after another on location with a full crew in support.Apart from the cost of the flights, wages(which seem far too much) and hotel bills etc etc why do they need to send so many when most countries have a local man based in that country who could cover most of the news in that area.
But when the big exciting story seems to be going off the boil they all come home and you dont hear anything either no longer or only now and then.
Its like they say "move along, nothing to see here" or just cant be bothered anymore.
The problem hasnt gone away, people still live in shit or with no food or the war is still going on.It just doesnt stop when the tv crews go home to their over the top wages.

Nob3y/Gusset
Maybe I am just imagining it but Libya seems to have dropped away from being wall to wall coverage on the news channels to hardly anything at all.
I suspect the fact that the political parties are into the third week of the conference season has knocked Libya off top billing. Or alternatively, what is going on in Sirte doesn't appear to fit in with the goodies/baddies theme.
In many ways this is the really critical part of the civil war. The NTC is claiming victory apart from one or two towns still held by Gaddafi loyalists.
So what is it like under this new dawn? What goes on?
As an aside, there you go, Gusset Sniffer

Is it any wonder? I mean don't you read the papers, Mike Tindell has been caught red handed by hi-def CCTV-with his tongue down the throat of a mystery blonde, rumour has it he was also under the influence of drink, and it was after 9pm in the evening, anyway I couldn't give a shit, here's a picture of the blonde, poor Zara, she never really stood a chance.
