The Looney Left

Post by Alex L »

More nonsense, Guy Fawkes becomes:

"The Colour Thief: A Winter Extravaganza Celebrating The Changing Of The Seasons".

'Political correctness gone mad.' One of the laziest, least meaningful, over used phrases to come from the mouths of the usual rent-a-quoters.

I struggle to see the point here.

Is it that loony Left councillors are planning to avoid offending Guy Fawkes great great great great etc etc grandchildren and they don't want to antagonise people currently planning to kill the QUeen and replace her with a Catholic monarch?

Time Out describes it as "Dulwich Park's fireworks take the form of an outdoor specactle, a story told with carnival costumes and processions and topped off with sparkling pyrotechnics".

I guess if the council is laying one of these on every year, what's the issue if they decide they may want to change the theme so that it isn't exactly the same as last year? Will people turn up if they have exactly the same story, costumes, processions as they did the year before and the year before last?

A lot of locals presumably will have their own fires, dunno if allowed in London, with guys on top so I guess they may want to see something different laid on by the council?

Seems to be the proverbial storm in a teacup.

Cheers

Most of these stories are exaggerated by the likes of the Daily Mail so they can peddle their "oh noes, we're afraid to offend Muslims" agenda.

I tend to file them with the 'Christmas is being renamed Winterval', 'you'll be arrested if you wear an England football shirt' and the latest one I've seen which is 'the sale of poppys is being banned so as not to offend immigrants'. All of which are bollocks.

For every example of "the loony Left" I could probably give you an example of "the rabid Right". Extremism on either side of the political spectrum is dangerous.

If you actually read further than the first paragraph you'd see that the name-change has nothing to do with political correctness but because of budget cuts forcing the council to bring a few other festivities together rather than cancelling them.

You only read what you wanted to.

Then you missed the very reason why the name was changed....which was the main point you needed before basing an opinion on what you feel about it.

Thus: you had an opinion before reading that article and just took in the bits that backed up your opinion.

You could have just missed it, but that would be all too convenient and I'm not having it!

"and I'm not having it!"

Well I'm with councillor Robin Crookshank Hilton on this one, rather than Sam Hectoring Slater.

"Lib Dem Dulwich councillor Robin Crookshank Hilton said the council were trying to cover up the gaffe after underestimating opposition to changing the name."

You choose to believe the quote from Veronica Ward, I choose not to, thank you and goodnight.
