The unemployment figures were announced today for May to July. They were the worst figures for 2 years even though this period typically sees an increase in employment with businesses in the tourist industry taking on staff for the summer season.
Cameron told us last autumn that Britain, under the Tories sound economic planning, was out of the recession. Since then we have had rises in unemployment, frequent revisions downwards of the growth forecast and missed targets for deficit reduction as the Treasury's tax take plummets. Whatever the pain is doing it aint working.
Its been interesting to see that in the first six months in government, every single Cabinet minister started their spiel about measures in their area with "Of course, all of this is the fault of the Labour government and Gordon Brown that left us with the worst, largest, biggest, most catastrophic etc etc etc."
Now they have been in power for nearly 18 months and when the government's economic planning is clearly impacting on and moulding the British economy, any problems are down to the "difficult global situation".
The million 18-24 year olds out of work deserve better.
Cheers

But half of these 18-24 year olds are bone idle unemployable layabouts used to Nu Labor handouts. 11am get up, watch recording of Jeremy Kyle to see if I am on it, shag girlfriend without condom so she can get pregnant and then jump the housing queue and spend the sure start grant on a new tv. Have you tried hiring decent young staff these days? They turn up at interviews unwashed, don't take their baseball caps off indoors and can hardly string a decent sentence together. We have serious issues get literate lads to start apprenticeships. They idolise Rooney and gangster rappers and think that is how you get rich, not study and graft.

Most manufacturing that remains in the UK is ever more dependant on imported raw materials and components. Just one example JCB who it was reported 30 years ago sourced 96% of their components in the UK but now import 64%
The last government did nothing to increase UK manufacturing and agriculture hence both creating employment and reducing our reliance on imports.
So far this government has not even supported existing manufacturing - just one example is the ordering of 1200 new rail carriages from Siemens.
The burden on all who are paying tax is totally unfair and if children have parents who are out of work long term what incentive do they have to see school as worthwhile.

Interesting statistic. Any info to back that up?
As to the Nu Labor handouts, other than the Future Jobs scheme which attempted to give unemployed kids some experience of work,
what is the difference between Nu Labour handouts and Tory handouts, Arginald?
Third question. How fantastic do you think life is on ?50 a week jobseekers allowance?

Don't worry
Procter & Gamble?s marketing director, Roisin Donnelly speaking to the Telegraph says,
?We could have predicted recession, because people were suddenly wearing brighter colours and bigger fragrances. I?ve got great hope that we're coming out of recession, because the colours are getting a little bit more muted in the fashion today,?
Oh dear. But I suppose it's the best we can hope for from the business leaders and economists of this country. I think the government is getting a little duller so she could be right !grin!
