Jacqui Smith

Post by David Johnson »

Old habits die hard. As a Labour MP she was found guilty of being in breach of Commons rules for trousering large amounts of expenses for the two homes sting that many MPs carried out. The taxpayer forked out for a couple of pornos for hubby.

And apparently in an interview with Radio Times published in February 2011, Smith claimed that her expenses had been scrutinised because she was a woman, saying: "I know that it was my expenses people looked at first because I was a woman and should have been at home looking after my husband and children." No comment!!

Jeez, after losing her seat last year you would have thought she would have kept out of the limelight. But no, she has used her connections with a head of a charity to get a couple of day release prisoners to do a painting job at her house. Hardly the best use of their time. A community painting job would have been more appropriate or if there weren't any, going round and painting an oap's house would have been a lot better.

I assume when Ian Duncan Smith's workfare program gets up to full tilt, Jacqui Smith will be cueing up to get some poor unemployed sod to scrub her kitchen floors for next to nothing. Alternatively she could take someone and put them up in a spare room as a skivying intern. Workhouse big society here we come.

She's the sort of person that probably wanders around cities looking at her feet in case someone has dropped a fiver.

Shameless or what?

Cheers

"whats wrong with helping out a couple of guys who need the money?"

Hang on, Jacqui Smith stated that in return for the painting job she made a "contribution to charity" The money did not go to the guys painting the house as far as I am aware.

A spokesman said the two inmates, from HMP Hewell in Redditch, were meant to work to "help the whole community" as part of a scheme run by a local charity, the Batchley support group. He said: "The decision to provide prisoners for this work was taken without consultation with HMP Hewell or the Ministry of Justice and was a mistake. "Offenders should work on projects which help the whole community. The scheme has been suspended while a full internal investigation is undertaken."

I can only agree with the above. these schemes should be used purely to support community projects or to help the disadvantaged who probably couldn't afford to get their house painted. Not a relatively well of ex-MP!!

The point is that what she did with regard to using prisoners on day release is not acceptable in my book. Not illegal, but not acceptable for the reasons I have given in my other post.

Secondly as I am sure you are aware she has previous.

On 8 February 2009, it was revealed in the press that Smith had designated a house in London owned by her sister as her main residence in order to claim a parliamentary allowance for her house in Redditch as a secondary home, despite explicitly stating on her website that she "lives in Redditch". She had claimed more than ?116,000 over six years from this arrangement.

Sir Alistair Graham, the former Chairman of the Committee on Standards in Public Life was critical of her actions stating that naming her sister's spare bedroom as her main home was "near fraudulent". In reply to this comment, it was reported that Smith threatened to take legal action for 'malicious falsehood' But didnt!

In October 2009, it was reported that the Standards Commissioner, John Lyon, had looked into complaints over her expense claims. He concluded that her constituency home was in fact her main home, and that she was in breach of Commons rules.

So although it wasn't fraudulent in terms of the incredibly lax Common approach to expenses of the time, it was totally immoral what she did. As Labour supporters if we slag off business people for trousering money via tax avoidance which is legal, we should also be prepared to slag off the likes of ex Labour MPs such as Jacqui Smith who obviously has a penchant for putting her nose in the trough if she thinks she can get away with it.

That's a bit "pot, kettle and black" for this forum isn't it?

I totally agree with you on this issue David. The woman has no fucking shame. Personally I would like to see her charged with misuse of HMP's work release programme helping in the Community, and the woman running the particular charity concerned (the one who was Smiths sponsor for Parliament) is banned from using these day release cons again.
As for Smiths husband, well he's the muppet who has to live with her.

I'm inclined to agree, Mr Spider. I too think that calling a fellow connoisseur of the erotic arts, a "Sad muppet" on a forum that owes its very "raison d'etre" to porno muck and filth, a little worrying!!confused!

Anyway, firstly, I would like to think that all of us should give Mr Smith a rousing cheer for his enlightened attitude to porno filth and secondly for having to live with that old bag of a wife of his!

Hurrah!Hurrah! Hurrah! To Mr Smith. You are welcome onto this hallowed forum whenever you wish!
