"waiting times in NHS up"

Better late than dead! 13 Years of limitless funding for public sector managers did not appear to work too well!

I feel no need to apologise for my adding a little balance to your post.

The Staffordshire events were shameful and horrific, but are not unknown, alas, in the NHS. Nor are they unknown in the residential care environment either in private or public sector homes.

The independent Kings Fund which is the leading analytical body studying healthcare and the NHS in general, produced a report in 2010 looking at the Labour government actions.

The report praised "considerable progress" in the NHS, saying hospital waiting times have been slashed and primary care has improved since Labour came to power. They also pointed out: Less variation in access to drugs and treatment; Significant reductions in MRSA and C.difficile infection rates; Sustained reductions in deaths due to cancer and cardiovascular disease; Sustained reductions in rates of smoking. On the downside, the Kings Fund found that there had been a drop in productivity and cancer survival figures were below a number of european countries.

In addition the NHS has had its highest approval ratings ever achieved from various customer surveys

16 months into a Tory government and where are we now. Huge cutbacks (savings to use the Tory term) have resulted in numerous bans on non-urgent operations. An NHS bill proposing the biggest ever top down re-organisation in the NHS for which the Tories have absolutely no electoral mandate because they told nobody about it. This bill is opposed by just about every professional body working in the NHS and will result in a huge increase in needless bureaucracy.

Under which political party is the NHS safer? I think that experience shows that the Labour party is clearly a better guardian for the NHS.

Cheers

What is a total humiliation for Cameron and Osborne is that the entire Tory cabinet spent their first 6 months in power blaming the Labour government for everything and downplaying completely any idea that the global recession was the main factor etc etc. Even to the extent that Cameron declared that the recession was over last autumn.

Since then the UK under the influence of the Tory budgets has gone downhill fast. Now that they realise the economy is firmly under their stewardship after this amount of time in government, they are endlessly blaming it on the global economy, events in USA and the EU etc etc..

Complete idiots. As they thrash around helplessly with regard to the economy and Cameron shows his true colours as the bastard child of Thatcherism, alas for us all, apart from the rich, things can only get worse unless the hapless duo do yet another about turn on policy.

"Complete idiots. As they thrash around helplessly with regard to the economy ......"

I'm afraid David, your profound observation can be as equally applied to the clowns of New Labour as to the idiots of the Coalition.

Both hopeless parties are banging the same old drum as they've done for years. Dogma rules as usual;

New Labour : Spend! Spend! Spend!
Tories : Cut ! Cut ! Cut!

Both parties are totally devoid of any imagination and I cannot believe for one second that at this present time we would be any better off if New Labour had won the election.

(I know david you will have a ream of stuff that, "Proves" everything would be just peachy if NL had won, but to be honest no one believes New Labour "stats" after 13 years of dodgy spin. I know it's not your fault)

I DO KNOW one thing however, if NL had won, absolutely, nothing, not a sausage, not an iota, not a itsy bitsy of tiniest of changes would have happened to the rich. They would be raking it in as usual!!cigar!

A Tory Economist:

Both are clowns as you can see!

No they are not. Labour are in favour of cuts that are less deep and less fast rather than spend, spend, spend.

" I cannot believe for one second that at this present time we would be any better off if New Labour had won the election."

The economy under the Tories in the last 9 months is in far worse shape than the economy of the 9 months previous to that when it was still under the influence of Labour policies. Those are independent figures not the governments.

" know david you will have a ream of stuff that, "Proves" everything would be just peachy if NL had won,"

I have never said that, as you know.

"if NL had won, absolutely, nothing, not a sausage, not an iota, not a itsy bitsy of tiniest of changes would have happened to the rich. They would be raking it in as usual"

You are probably right. Oh no, what have I said !wink!
