Being that the police are incapable and or unwilling to protect life and property in the UK, wouldn't it be timely to relax the law on gun ownership?
"Are you feeling lucky PUNK? Well are you? Act 2012"
I propose that any British subject over the gave of 30, with no criminal convictions and no history of mental illness, should be able to own a gun and keep it within the confines of his or her property.
I propose that the purpose of the firearm is for the sole use of protecting youself and /or your family and /or your property from those that would seek to threaten you, your family or your property. You would have the right to use deadly force against anyone that crossed the boundary of your property with the intention of causing harm to you.
The gun must be kept under lock and key at all time unless needed and if removed from the boundaries of your property there is a mandatory 5 year prison sentence, unless the firearm has been previously booked in at a gunsmith for servicing.
My question to the panel is this, if my law was passed, what firearm would you choose?
I would be happy with a Kalashnikov AK47 with 1000 rounds of ammo. Note how the easy clean and maintenence aspects of the weapon together with its legendary reliability makes it a firm favourite with terrorist groups Worldwide!

A return to the 1968 Firearms Act would suffice. A person could legally acquire a pistol for a "good reason", the only problem being that the Home Office sent a secret memo to the police forces telling them not to accept self-defence as a "good reason". Prior to 1968 quite a few pistols were legally owned for self-defence, but it is something which has disappeared down the memory hole. Up until 1939 I happen to know that every branch of Barclays Bank kept a pistol on the premises. During the war these were turned over to the Home Guard, and never returned after the war. I suppose Britain in 1945 seemed like a safe place. Not any more!
Nope, they shouldn't. But...
if they were, I'd choose a Browning 9mm hand gun and the good old Heckler and Koch MP5 machine pistol. If they're good enough for the SAS, they'll do for me.
Re: Nope, they shouldn't. But...
I'd settle for one of these glocks, that'd make the fuckers scarper.
We have need of you again, great king.
