There is a bug in the current Avast update.
It will cause some installations to lock up with a popup notification window and on reboot all functions will be disabled.
Avast are aware and the bug will be resolved in the next definition update.
However if, like me, your system is locked out I assume you will have to uninstall, reboot and reinstall.
If for compatibility you are not running the current main program version 6.0.1203 the older versions can be found here
Unless someone posts first I'll update as I find out more.
Avast Update Gremlin
Re: Avast Update Gremlin
Thanks for the update.
Re: Avast Update Gremlin - sorted
Avast have sorted the problem.
Provided your installation is not locked out it will continue as normal.
If it is manually downloading the update file from here
then installing (simply double click the downloaded file ) followed by rebooting should fix your system.
If not open the main program and try clicking FIX.
If still no joy uninstall, reboot and reinstall the program.
The definitions should update automatically as normal.
