Rebekah Brooks resigns

Post by David Johnson »

Oh happy day!

Looks like her statement copied sections from the Andy Coulson statement when he resigned from "See no evil, hear no evil" Call me Dave's office.

""I have believed that the right and responsible action has been to lead us through the heat of the crisis. However my desire to remain on the bridge has made me a focal point of the debate. This is now detracting attention from all our honest endeavours to fix the problems of the past."

James Murdoch said ""We support her as she takes this step to clear her name,". Don't hold your breath James.

Now why was it, James that you signed off a cheque for ?1million to keep shtum complainants that had been phone hacked?

Cheers

Hi David,

People like her never really suffer when they resign because of some controversial thing they have done or overseen. It's not as if she will have a reduction in her standard of living or anything. She will either leave with a 7 figure pay off or walk straight into another ridiculously highly paid position - or both.

Max.

Wonderful Steve cartoon about Rupert Murdoch's forthcoming appearance at the select commitee next Tuesday. You will need to scroll to the top of the link to see the cartoon.

News Corp seems in complete disarray. First Rupes says the organisation has only made "minor" mistakes in dealing with the crisis and has supported Brooks a 100% in the last two weeks.

Err, if Rebekah Brooks had gone last week, would you have had to close down your most profitable paper in the UK, Rupert? Closing down the NOTW, didnt save Ms Brooks, nor did it save your BSkyB bid did it?

Secondly News Corporation is to take out national press adverts this weekend to apologise for what it described as "the wrongdoings at the News of the World".

Thirdly the FBI is investigating reports that Rupert Murdoch's News Corporation sought to hack the phones of victims of the 9/11 attacks.

If the FBI come up with a result, time for Rupert to take an early bath, methinks.

Happy day indeed.

Rebekah's interesting CV...

Post by max_tranmere »

From marrying (and beating up) Grant Mitchell, to sneering at gay MP's, our Rebekah's done it all!

From Wikipedia:

Personal life

Brooks became engaged to actor Ross Kemp (best known as Grant Mitchell in EastEnders) in 1996, and married him in June 2002 in Las Vegas; she did not take Kemp's surname.[37] In July 2011, gay MP Chris Bryant claimed that brookes had previously "sneered" at his sexuality[38] and that Kemp had responded "Shut up, you homophobic cow".[38] On 3 November 2005, it was reported that Brooks had been arrested following an alleged assault on her husband. She was later released without charge and the police took no further action.[37] The Sun had been running a campaign against domestic violence at the time.[39][9] From this point on, Brooks was referred to in Private Eye as "the slapper" (a pejorative word for a woman of loose morals in Britain, and a pun on the act of slapping). The couple had spent the previous evening in the company of the former Cabinet Minister David Blunkett, who had resigned for the second time on that day.[40]

Private Eye and The Independent[41] reported that the couple had separated; this was not widely reported in the remainder of the British press. The 7 March 2008 issue of Private Eye refers to her "paramour", former racehorse trainer and author Charlie Brooks. The Guardian reported on 5 June 2009 that she would marry Brooks.[42] The Independent reported that Brooks and her fianc? had married in a lakeside ceremony in June 2009;[43] she took his surname.

Brooks is a friend of Sheryl Gascoigne, the ex-wife of footballer Paul Gascoigne.[12] She also attended the Prince of Wales' 50th birthday party.[8]

Brooks lives in Chipping Norton.[44]

If the FBI come up with a result, Rupert (although more likely one of his minions) could be taking a prison shower!

Ah, what a thought has come into my mind. Rupert Murdoch, handcuffed, being sent off on remand to Rjkers prison.
