So there I was over lunch today chatting to the PR person I was shooting with, and I asked 'What's next in this story?' 'Well' she said,'It wouldn't surprise me if the relatives of dead service personnel have been targeted.' Newsnight just said that the police have found the names and phone numbers of some. Spooky or what?

He would have been just as bad. Ed Miliband has kept very quiet on the whole thing until this week. Why? Because if he'd upset uncle Rupert, the weight of the Murdoch press would have been set firmly against him until the next election.

Brown would have been no different.

It has been Labour party policy that the BSkyB takeover should be referred to the Competition Committee for a long time. This request was turned down by the Tory led government. Given that satellite TV is by far the most profitable part of the Murdoch empire, you could hardly define that as not wishing to "upset uncle Rupert"

I think the Labour government did next to nothing to control Murdoch.

However, I seem to recall Ben Bradshaw, the Labour Culture Secretary when they were in power, stating that if Murdoch planned to takeover BSkyB it would be referred to the Competition Commission.

News Corp delayed their application until after Cameron became Prime Minister, following a Murdoch media campaign in favour of the Tories during the election run-up..

By this time, ex-NOTW editor Coulson had been Cameron's Comms adviser for 3 years. I think News Corp had already sussed who would give them the much easier ride, don't you?

Some great comments on both the Guardian and Telegraph blogs, this one had a horrible truth to it.

"Who was Blairs Comms Chief? Wasn't he pretty much responsible for taking us to war in Iraq?
And wasn't it already very clear that whilst Cameron had dinner with Brooks over the xmas period (not xmas day), there were other there, including (shock, horror) the likes of Jeremy Clarkson.
Lets see how many innocent die as a result of the two different Heads of Communication. My bet is firmly on Campbell. Unfortunately no one wants to take it. That what you happens when you try to back a favourite."

And you are impressed by this comment? Really?

Personally, I think Prime Minister Blair has much more responsibility for UK involvement in the war in Iraq than Campbell.

Far better to stick to the articles in the Guardian than the vast majority of the comments, methinks.

Impressed?, No, I read it and thought it was well put, and probably very true, Coulson is a cunt and will be arrested soon, Campbell and Blair are still walking the streets, we will never get the truth out of them, ever.
