Yep, for now. There's supposed to be a separate program to allow that in the pipeline, but for now, it's a 'new projects only' state.

You could happily work on a 15" and let it take that little bit longer, unless you really, really need to make that 15 minutes count.

15" for ?1229, 8gb ram for ?50

You could even get a 13" and an external monitor (or wire it up to an existing DVI monitor you may already have) to use at home in order to get a bigger desktop, yet keep the compactness of the 13" for on the road.

And remember the new i3/i5 processors being used are a lot better than the C2D we're currently using.

Sure, it'd be nice to have a fully loaded 17" (ooo-errr, missus!) but if shaving a grand off the price is the difference between upgarding or not, then thats the way I'd go. (And indeed I am, i'll be getting a refurb 13" for general use and as backup for FCPX should my Mac Pro go down)

Just get yourself down to the apple store, buy a 12 core mac Pro (and two 27" monitors, of course) and a 17" MBP, hand over your credit card, wipe the tears from your eyes and go home and enjoy your new toys!

But seriously, macs are one of the few things I know about, just trying to help you find a solution to a problem which could end up costing you a grand more than it needs to.

And i'm playing with FCPX right now, I reckon you'll be fine with it, for the sort of editing we do, ie everything ourselves, its perfect. I'm assuming you don't send the project to someone else to work on the sound, another person to do the colour, and special effects team as well, it's really only this 'teamwork' editing that's the problem in this release.

Nope, things are a bit different, getting your head around the canvas/viewer (sometimes its the canvas, sometimes its a viewer) is daunting, but I still marks in, O still marks out, b still brings up the blade for cutting. JKL still do the forward/reverse stuff.

I'm going to have a good play around tomorrow, but it's more of a relearning where things have moved to rather starting all over again.

Do you know if it will render faster on a Dual Core MBP than FCP7? I heard that it does this in a different way.
