'No man is an island, entire of itself...any man's death diminishes me, because I am involved in mankind'.
Cant put it better than John Donne.
All foreign aid MUST stop.

Hi
You realise that you have just set up a BGAFD whack i.e. the first mention of the poet John Donne on the forum?
Good sentiment too.
Cheers

Re: All foreign aid MUST stop.
By stopping foreign aid to continents like Africa thousands will die.
No matter how poor we can get in the UK we have no idea of real poverty, it is our duty as a civilized nation to help others, and the only way to do this is through foreign aid.
You will never see people in the UK staving to death in their 1000's, 3RD world countries are not as fortunate, so it is right that we look after them.
Would I like to see stricter controls on where the money goes, so dictators don't get their hands on it, of course, but that is not easy.
Any and every life we save through foreign aid is something to be proud of.
Don't treat others as you are treated, but how you would like to be treated.

Had I thought it would have had the slightest beneficial impact on the not-infrequent displays of xenophobia, lack of empathy for humankind, disregard for the frightful state that much of the world's population have to endure day in and day out and the almost total inability to see that we have a responsibility for a lot of what ails the globe, that is shown by some on here, then I might have quoted Donne before.

As Mariel Hemingway said to Woody Allen in that great film Manhattan,
"You gotta have faith"
if nothing else you are providing an antidote - a potential inoculation. Whether people want to take it of course, is a different matter!

Re: Zorro.
It seems odd that Cameron is,on the one hand, telling Brits only to have children that they can afford, and then giving loads of money to Africans, who have children that they-patently-cannot afford.

I see your point but it is difficult to argue that poverty in Africa is not on a completely different scale compared to the UK.
Secondly, if people ignored his advice in the UK about only having children they can afford, would he allow them to starve to death? I doubt it.
