Yesterday our super-hero, Cleggie said unless there were "substantial, significant changes" to Lansley's proposals to hand commissioning powers to GPs and extend private provision of NHS services, he would tell Liberal Democrat MPs and peers to join Labour in voting them down.
Perhaps Andrew Marr could have asked Cleggie why then, dear Tory poodle, did you sign the NHS White Paper, lead all Lib Dem MPs in voting for Lansley's bill in the first reading in the House of Commons and in voting against the innumerably amendments suggested by Labour in the committee stage?
And he said that he would make a "pledge" on this. Well that's reassuring, isn't it? What a good way of getting student voters back on his side!

Re: NHS
Hi,
Re. Mackinnon, this is really dragging on. I suspect one of the reasons why the UK is in this mess is that David Blunkett made a pig's ear of the Extradition Treaty in 2003 which had unintended consequences which he was told about but didn't listen to.
As for Cleggie, I do find him the strangest politician. He comes on the Andrew Marr show yesterday, making out he is the defender of the NHS against Lansley's bill.
Did he expect that no political commentator would say today:
Didnt you sign the Lansley White Paper?
Didnt you come on the Andrew Marr show in January and support the bill?
Didnt you vote for the bill at its first and second readings in the House of Commons and against all the Labour party amendments?
What, other than the election results, has totally changed your mind about this bill?
Either Cleggie is a complete fuckwit or he assumes that the electorate are fuckwits to a man/woman.
I can't see any other explanation. But the overall effect has been to consolidate the electorate's view of him as someone who is completely dishonest.
Cheers

If you are happy to pay 40% basic rate tax you might get the NHS to some sort of effective business. Thing is people are living longer, and are often ill for longer. If peopel died at 70 as they did en masse in the 50s and 60s then the NHS would be cheaper to run. However I would shudder to work out the costs of the average geriatric or Park / Alzs ward.

"I thought Tony B Liar was." (the most dishonest and vacuous politician in Britain)
Well if you can show me where Tony Blair changed the Labour party's views on:
The key economic policy of a parliament, defence, education, student fees, the NHS, foreign policy, immigration etc etc.
in the space of two weeks - one week before and one week after a general election, then I will believe you.
Cheers

Re: RoddersUK
No Tony Blair just lied to get us into a illegal war.
Then had Dr Kelly murdered because he had spilled the beans on the bullshit that Blair had fed the country and Parliment.
He only signed the Human rights act so his missus could make millions.
