Biggs - Still Not Dead Yet Almost Not Quite

Post by Deano! »

Reading one of Davo's posts about that al-Megrahi geezer who was released because he was supposed to be near death reminded me of that other non-kicker of buckets - Ronnie Biggs.

Here is an amusing link regarding his 'Lifetime Achievements' (from the highly respected Mirror Newspaper) -

I suppose that there is nothing like release from prison to give your health a boost.

As for Biggs, I have nothing but contempt for the way he has revelled in his part in the Train Robbery and made money out of that notoriety.

Especially when I think of the family of the train driver who got a real beating and didn't recover. It would have been quite fitting if one of the family had made the presentation of the knuckleduster and given him a beating with it. They could have videoed the whole thing, put out a punk rock single to accompany it and given the proceeds to a charity dealing with victims of crime and their families.

Hardly a noble, victimless crime.

The driver of the train was Jack Mills, he was hit with an axe handle during the robbery, suffering a black eye, and some facial bruising, it was never proven that Ronald Biggs had any part in this act. Jack Mills died 7 years later from Lukemia, completely unrelated, and an Inquest concluded his death had nothing to do with the train robbery, whilst I can see that Ronnie Biggs was a wrong'un, I think his sentence was barbaric, and only given because he cocked two fingers up at the establishment by stealing from the crown, Yet today we very often see the sad spectacle of an older person, who's face has been smashed in by thugs, or someone such as Gary Newlove, who was kicked "like a football" in the face by three youths and died from his injuries. They recieved 17, 15 and 12 yrs respectively. I know who I would rather have a drink with.

Ronnie Biggs had nothing to do with the beating. H ewas made a scapegoat and has been ever since. In fact he was only a minor criminal.

But the thing is they are united by the fact that they are all scum. Theres no such thing as a decent crim.

Biggs was a career criminal who wasnt out that night nicking some sweeties from the local shop. He was accompanied by some very nasty men with bats whos sole purpose was to stop anyone who opposed them and biggs was ok with that.

Youre right about the youths you refer too but when you have people glamourising crime and not being showing criminals as the vermin they are teamed up with a ludicrus "justice" system this is what you end up with.

"The driver of the train was Jack Mills, he was hit with an axe handle during the robbery, suffering a black eye, and some facial bruising, it was never proven that Ronald Biggs had any part in this act. Jack Mills died 7 years later from Lukemia, completely unrelated, and an Inquest concluded his death had nothing to do with the train robbery,

First I never said that Ronnie Biggs beat Mills, but he was part of that gang and an element of shared responsibility applies. As for Mills' injuries he suffered from trauma headaches for the rest of his life and never worked again.

It's a fair point that Mills died of leukaemia and I am aware that the inquest said that it had nothing to do with the robbery. However, it cannot be said that it was just facial bruising and that Mills didnt suffer subsequently. His son John said: "I deeply resent those, including Biggs, who have made money from my father's death. Biggs should serve his punishment."

"I think his sentence was barbaric, and only given because he cocked two fingers up at the establishment by stealing from the crown, "

I agree that there is something wrong when a robber who steals a huge sum of money gets 30 years and some of those found guilty of murder get considerably less.

"I know who I would rather have a drink with."

What Biggs did was make money out of a crime in which someone, Mill's life was completely changed. While in Brazil, he recorded No One Is Innocent for the Sex Pistols and also raised money by selling T-shirts of himself and entertaining Japanese tourists. The only reason he came back was that he had a number of strokes and fancied some free treatment on the NHS. Even then he was looking for a little earner. He returned on 7 May 2001, and was re-imprisoned for his crimes. His trip back on a private jet was paid by The Sun, which had also reportedly paid Michael Biggs ?20,000, plus other expenses.

If you were Jack Mills' son how would you feel about this?

Think it was Buster Edwards or Bruce Reynolds who coshed the Driver Biggs made record in 70s and the title was changed to No One Is Innocent from Cosh The Driver!
