Death toll in japan

I see each day the official death toll edges ever upwards. Its now gone
from the 100s to above 3,000 but the unofficial figure looks to be 10,000-
20,000.
This is without taking into account the effects of cancers caused by
radiation. Quite recently Greenpeace set a final tally of deaths as a
result of Chernobyl at 90,000 with a further 60,000 people dying earlier
than they should have done, due to contactable cancers, in Russia.
It seems that the terrible atomic situation in Japan is getting out of hand
and we are at meltdown or close to it in some reactors. No doubt, in time,
this awful matter will be successfully dealt with.
But based on the Chernobyl disaster and Greenpeace Report I think the
"official" figures will be shown to be nonsense; the final toll over the next
decade or so, due to the heavy population of Japan, will be at least
100,000 and possibly much higher than that.

I'm losing track of which explosions have been taking place at which reactors.

Today, apparently they were trying to cool the rods by using helicopters with bags of seawater slung underneath.

That's reassuring. Isn't it?

I note that based on advice from its own Atomic Energy authority, France has recommended that it's nationals should leave Japan as soon as possible.
