Bahrain

Post by David Johnson »

So a 1,000 Saudi troops cross into Bahrain to help the royal family put down a bunch of troublesome rebels demanding political reform.

So anyone heard from our great leader, Cameron demanding a no-fly zone? No?

How about demands that the Bahraini royal family should go now? No? Really?

How about any accusations from Cameron that Saudi Arabia is a pariah state for getting involved in another country's internal politics and helping to quell demands for political reform? No?

Strange that.

Cheers

PS Whilst we are on the subject of doublespeak, "Broken Britain, we are on the verge of collapse, our debt as a percentage of GDP is higher than when Arold got an arra in is eye, lend us a fiver guv cos us Brits are broke" etc etc. "How can it be fair that bankers are living on a pittance whilst disabled scroungers are living the life of Riley, Blah, blah de blah de fucking blah"

Your beloved New Labour sowed the seeds that we now must reap, David! They pillaged this fine land for short term popularity and corrupt gain. It was they that proffered themselves like cheap whores to the fat cats of the City. It was they that sold their principles to the highest bidder regardless of their politics. It was they that torched the house. Now they cry, "Foul" whilst they watch it burn to the ground!

May they be cast into the wilderness for ever!

May the Good Lord deliver fire and brimstone upon the cowed heads of the corrupt acolytes of New Labour! See them skulk in the shadows plotting their return to their rotting and false claims of righteousness! With a vengeance unrelenting and sown from the Lord's great wrath, may an Angel of Death, descend with the swiftness of a mighty eagle and smite them with a blow from His mighty sword and deliver them (Especially John Prescott and Tony Blair) into the cauldron of scalding Hell Fire!

Dave, Saudi Arabia has lots and lots and lots of that oil stuff. They could legalise paedophilia and nobody in the West would say a sniff. Politics and money mean no morals.

Politicians of ALL parties have been licking Saudi arse for decades. Someone commented, that now Gadaffi has proved that all you have to do, to sort out any dissent in your country, is to brutally murder the dissidents. Now every other nasty despot will follow suit.

I think most observers of the Middle East scene loathe the Saudi Royal
Family.....they are absolute despots, some of them secretly support
wahabi fanatics, they flaunt their wealth (come on, be honest, we are
all a wee bit envious of their dosh) and act generally with little regard
to international law.
We are all agreed then ? Well, not exactly Mr Johnson. I take and enjoy
your point that Cameron/Clegg et Co seem to have a different attitude
to the Saudis, and especially the Bahrain Royal Family than Libya. In the
case of Bahrain I was not aware that their track record on human rights
was anything like as bad as Gaddhafi or the Saudi mob ?
Lets be fair to HM Govt (of whatever political persuasion). Bahrain was
firmly in the British sphere of influence for a long time. This is in the nature
of its history over the past 100 years and the nature of realpolitik.
All countries act, first and foremost, in what their Foreign Offices think
is to the benefit of that country. It is the job of our FO boys to do the
same. It is in British interests to keep Bahrain peaceful and churning
out oil. This may be hard for New Labour softies to understand but its
a fact of life and a fact of British diplomacy.

In short, governments act in their own interest. We know that. That doesn't make it any less nauseating.

Ah New Labour softies. I doubt if the hundreds of thousands of Iraqis who were wiped out in the recent war would use the description "New Labour softies". But if the phrase helps you to think of yourself as someone switched on to realpolitik..........
