I think this whole debate is somewhat skewed by terminology. The Texas law does not let "students" carry guns, it merely allows adults over 21 who also happen to be students to carry guns the same as other adults over 21. The fact that you don't like it, and are coming up with increasingly bizarre scenarios, is neither here nor there, this is a law decided by the elected representatives in Texas. If Texans don't like it, they'll vote them out.

Yes, that all sounds pretty bizarre to me. Adult people with the appropriate legal permits are not "gun toting", they are licensed concealed carry holders, whether they are in a campus, off campus, or a checkout clerk. This is legal in 43 of the 50 states, and experience has shown it causes no problem at all, so your worries do seem bizarre, inasmuch as they are not supported by evidence and experience. Sorry if you don't like that, but that's just the way it is.

I don't see how my scenarios are bizarre, though. What's bizarre about pointing out people carrying guns are more likely to shoot others? They can't shoot others without guns, obviously. People do silly things during petty arguments and young people in colleges argue.....as we all do.

Officials said an argument inside the restaurant led to the shooting.
The victim, Esteban Navarrete, 35, was having dinner with friends when there was a confrontation. Navarrete's brother said there was a verbal fight inside the restaurant about which state in Mexico was better.
The fight became physical in the parking lot. Navarrete and his wife tried to leave to avoid the fight. As they got into their car, two suspects approached them and fired several shots, hitting Navarrete in the head.

LANCASTER - A 67-year-old man is behind bars after Lancaster County Sheriff's deputies say he shot and killed a man after the two argued about drinking beer.
According to the Lancaster County Sheriff's Office, 55-year-old Ernest Lee Cunningham, of Heath Springs, was found with multiple gunshots inside a home on the 900 block of Louisa Street on Saturday night. Deputies were called out to the home for a report of shots fired and found Cunningham "slouched over in a chair to the left of the door. [He was] bleeding from [his] head, mouth and stomach.
Deputies checked Cunningham, who was unresponsive, and he was later pronounced dead at the scene."

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Police have arrested a suspect in connection with a fatal shooting in Madison on Monday.
Antonio Kelly, 19, was shot and killed while visiting his sister on Rio Vista Drive.
Officers said Kelly got into an argument with Gregory Dotson, 27, at the apartment and Dotson opened fire with an assault rifle and ran away.
Kelley was hit in the stomach and died.

Again, my belief is that students carrying guns on college campuses will lead to more deaths per year than gun-free campuses. What's the point of trying to protect them from 'nutters' every 5-10 years when the biggest danger to their lives will be themselves and their friends? Nothing bizarre about my views at all.

I believe that because Chelsea's training ground is a gun-free zone, it is dangerous and Ashley is within his rights to protect himself. I blame the young trainee that was shot because if he'd have brought his own gun then this accident would never have happened.

The first state to issue permits was Florida in 1987 iirc, and at the time there was much talk of wild west shoot outs over fender benders, but it didn't happen. In every state which has since issued carry permits there was the same talk, and then it didn't happen. As I said, 43 states now issue concealed carry permits. Anyone who commits a crime (not necessarily anything to do with guns) has the permit revoked, and again, iirc, in Florida the rate of revocation is about 0.1%. The sort of people likely to shoot someone over a fender bender are not the people who go to the trouble of obtaining a permit to carry legally.
As for Ashley Cole, a complete twat I'm sure we can all agree, but he was demonstrating the dangers of handling a gun without any sort of training (or common sense). Pointing a gun at someone and pulling the trigger because you "think it isn't loaded" is an act of infantile stupidity, but he's important to Chelsea, so he gets a slap on the wrist.
