sandisk 32g memory card problem

Post by pj »

I got a 32 gig sandisk udma6 90 mb/s card and shot some video on it, but the card filled after about 3 minutes, which it should NOT do. I checked the properties and it seems the card is actually 970-970 MB ONLY!

WTF!! is that about?

Yes, you do have a problem. On a 16 g/bt card I can shoot 130 mins of HD 1920 X 1080 or 65 mins in 50i (50FPS) 1920 x 1080.

You may have other data on the card that you can't see. I always format a new card on the device that I intend to shoot on.

If you can transfer what you've shot, then try formatting the card as described above.

Thanks Jim, yep, formatted the card loads of times, but never right clicked the properties of it until I shot a test video yesterday.

I wonder if there are fake cards going around that are 1g, but say 32g?

It doesn't make sense, there must be data occupying the disc. Did you format on a PC or the camcorder? You must format on the camcorder. Right clicking (At least on a Mac) tells you the capacity and memory available. The capacity should read just under 32 Gig.

Hi Jim, have it on a canon 7d. It doesn't make sense at all. Tried again, the capacity is 979 mb.

I got it on ebay for 2 or 300 euro. If I can find the oroginal seller, I might ask him about it, but he did have a good rep there and that's why I bought from him.

Thanks,

Wow that's alot of money!

I buy my SD cards from these people, established for years and based in London!

I've heard of people getting re-labelled CF cards on ebay before, chances are its the same scam.

We have need of you again, great king.

Maybe I am missing something but is PJ talking compact flash or sd cards here?

The Canon 7D certainly accepts compact flash.

If it's compact flash, Warehouse Express quote ?300 for the same spec. card as PJ refers to.

Lizard's post seems to suggest a likely answer to the problem.
