Long weekend holiday

Post by David Johnson »

Hiya,

I'd like to go on a long weekend break in mainland Europe.

The main requirements are:
1. Not in Euroland. The pound has gone down the pan over the last 3 years against the euro and I want somewhere relatively cheap.
2. I don't want to freeze my bollocks off there. It will probably be around late spring.
3. Attractive, old city. I'd be planning to do a lot of photography.

Any suggestions/recommendations?

Prague.
Cheap beer, cheap food which was pretty good and the natives seemed friendly enough. Not sure what the temperature will be in spring but I was there in late autumn and I never had to put a jacket on.

Sofia? Istanbul? Both close to each other so fit both in?

Weather should be warmer late spring than other non-euro countries.

How about St Petersburg?
I'm off there shortly and it can be cheap if you look around.
It can be terribly expensive if you don't.
Plenty of sights to photograph.
The pound has dropped against the ruble recently though.

Thanks for the suggestions.

I had planned to go to Prague a few years ago but had to cancel due to the offer of a long term contract. So that's definitely a possibility.

I like the idea of Istanbul - east meets west and fantastic architecture, together with a great position overlooking the Bospherus.

!laugh!. Good one!

Yeah, instead of a postcard, I'll send some plutonium through to you as a little memento of the trip!

Lisbon.
I know it's Euro-land but it's cheap. Should be warm and it's a lovely place with plenty of history and great places to eat.

Ignore Rodders, David. He's managed to strangle all the local cats in his area, poisoned his neighbour's dogs and made loud banging noises outside the nice old lady round the corner to give her canary a heart-attack. Now he's bored and just waiting for the local hedgehogs to come out of hibernation so he can resume setting fire to them and throwing them over the fence into the nursery. He likes to hear the kids scream.

He's a complete twa(t^10).

As such I think he has a right to express his opinion.
You on the other hand, has done what to earn respect?
