Few weeks ago, a Yorkshire Bank cashpoint in the wall of a supermarket ate my debit card, informing me that it was a security issue.
Checked with the supermarket if they had any contact details and they said the problem happened regularly. Anyway, checked with my bank and they said there was no problem with the card or it's security and that the money had been debited and then credited again to my account when the cash machine decided not to bother giving me the dosh. Barclays reissued a new card but I had to make a 200 mile round trip to collect it because I wasn't at home at the time. It wasn't that much of a hassle because I had to go back anyway.
I contacted Yorkshire Bank and their line was - not our fault, Barclays fault, contact them for compensation etc etc.
I pushed it with Yorkshire Bank, claiming that it was their fault/responsibility and they eventually caved in and gave me ?100 compensation.
Not a fortune, but forumites if the same happens to you, worth looking into the compensation route.
Cheers

You could have avoided the problem if you'd looked more carefully at the name!!!
If it's from Yorkshire, has the the word Yorkshire in it or pretends to have any link with Yorkshire STAY WELL CLEAR!!!!!!

Do I have to reassess my view of you, Bob, and place you in the same category as the other bgafd bigots?
I have a strong suspicion that these cash machines are made in the same factories no matter what bank you use, and the software and security systems that run them aren't bank/region specific either.
I'd argue that the Yorkshire bank is about as much Yorkshire as BP is British! The country is in the doghouse right now due to a few hundred bankers based in London. Doesn't make anything with a London sticker on the front bad (just tacky !wink!).
Take your bigotry elsewhere you shandy-drinking ponce! !laugh!

Funny thing is though is that the Yorkshire Bank is owned by the National Bank of Australia.
I?m surprised to hear though that you bank with that bunch of crooks known as Barclays.
Why not bank with a mutual like The Co-operative Bank or a mutual Building Society (e.g. Nationwide)?
I try to keep as far away from the Big Banks as I can!

Spider
Guilty as charged.
I have had a Barclays account for about 30 years and at the time there wasn't much of a choice in the relatively small town where I lived.
I have an account with them with a small amount of readies. The rest of the vast Johnson financial empire (?103.50 accumulating at the rate of about 1p per year) is held elsewhere.
Cheers

Re: Spider
I sacked Barclays 24 years ago after 20 years custom when they wanted to charge for 3 months transactions due to their cockup. I had deposited ?350 some days before in a different branch and on withdrawing ?50 they reakoned I was o/drawn.
The smarmy bastard manager could'nt even get my name right and on questioning decided condescendingly to write back the charges. I told him to add it to the balance and close the account and stick his branch up his arse.
I went across the road to Nationwide and have never had one single problem.
Barclays are a bunch of arseholes.

You banked with Barclays??????
You banked with Barclays when no self respecting liberal-minded person would have been seen dead with an account with such a major prop of the apartheid regime in South Africa? I see you in a new light now. A small town with little choice? Pull the other one.
