Re: David...
I guess the point is that Muslims may attend state schools which are interdenominational. I can see no reason why either a practising Muslim or Jew should want to attend a Catholic school where there are only services in the Catholic tradition.
As to how interdenominational schools which have umpteen different religions are run. I dunno. I don't have kids and I don't teach. I am however wary of the "I know a school where" approach which extrapolates from one school to provide some universal truism.
Cheers

Muslim schools in the UK
The point that there are bad schools in all communities/faiths is undoubtedly true. However, if Channel 4 had filmed children being kicked, punched and had benches thrown at them in a "white" school, you would not have people rushing to say that this is an isolated issue and that it is not representative of "white" schools. We know that... so why do Muslim/Muslim apologists feel the need to rush out and say just that?
The schools inspector who had praised the school was shocked by what he had seen.
If what happened in that Muslim school had happened in a "white" school, there would be calls to have it closed down, for the headmaster to be prosecuted, David Cameron would be calling it intolerable, etc. Why should that school be treated any differently?

Another Muslim thread. I can't remember the last time we had a Muslim thread.
You know, it's been that long since anyone mentioned the Muslims around here I'd almost forgotten that they existed. We should have at least one Muslim thread a week to remind us there are indeed Muslims in the world.
I feel much happier now we have a Muslim thread. Thank Allah for Muslim threads.

I used to spend a lot of time criticizing Islam on here in the noughties - but things are much better now.

Channel 4 filmed in a single faith school environment. In this case it was Muslim.
If it had done a similar programme in a Christian Brothers school or Catholic single faith school, my guess is you would have exactly the same scenario with people from those communities arguing that this is an isolated case.
On the subject of arrests..

Re. violence in single faith schools, at least the violence wasn't as severe as this one, eh?

And before you come out with the "ah, but it is institutional violence in the Muslim school" talk to people educated in a Christian Brothers or Catholic nuns' school. Violence is deplorable whichever school it occurs in, but it happens in many different types of single faith school.
Cheers

Local councillor on speed dial..
Slightly concerning that the mosque appeared to be able to get the local councillor to come round and deal with the reporter when she and her camera crew appeared on their doorstep.
Of course bearing in mind that the local immman etc basically tell their drones who to vote for it makes sense.

Re: Essex Lad
I don't think there are many other faith schools in Britain in 2011 that still have corporal punishment. Then again, there are not many other faith schools in Britain that allow sixth formers to take lessons without teacher supervision.
Remind me where Channel 4 found religious leaders teaching intolerance in 2007? Synagogue? Christian Brothers School? No?

"Remind me where Channel 4 found religious leaders teaching intolerance in 2007? Synagogue? Christian Brothers School? No?"
So what's your argument? Because Channel 4 hasn't run a programme on violence, abuse etc in other single faith schools either now or in the past, it can't/doesn't exist?
You really think that strict Orthodox Jewish state funded schools give a balanced view on Gaza and the Arabs in the Middle East, for example?
I'm against all single faith schools. Arguing that the only problem is with Muslim schools which you appear to do, strikes me as nonsensical.
Cheers
