I see on Wikileaks its been uncovered that 2 years ago a British guy -
just a tourist but apparently without family - was beheaded by Moslem
terrorists in Mali demanding that Britain release a lieutenant of Bin Laden.
Gordon Brown and his gutless Govt and Whitehall mandarins decided
not even to TRY and negotiate this poor bastard`s release just in case
they were seen to be "negotiating" with terrorists.
The poor Arab sod who tried to mediate just couldn`t believe the Brit
Govt could care so less about one of its citizens !!!
So there you have it folks ! Don`t expect any help if one of you ever
gets involved with these evil guys. Whitehall and the Foreign Office will
wipe their hands of you !
Personally I loathe most of this modern age ! To think 162 years ago,
when Greeks at Athens insulted a British subject Lord Palmerston sent
the Royal Navy to blockade the city until the Brit got full reparations. No
Empire or respect in the World anymore, just lapdogs of the USA. Makes
me vomit !!

Who can forget the War of Jenkin's Ear (1739-48)? No messing around in those days; when a British subject was harmed by Johnny Foreigner we didn't negotiate, we went to war. We probably won.

this one ! I am, as you must be aware, a dyed-in-the-wool imperialist
and thus a dinosaur !
Perhaps because I am away from the UK so often I missed this story in
the Press 2 years ago ravis, so thanks for letting me know it got fully
covered. I would, however, argue that refusing to pay an ?8 million
ransom is very different from even talking to the terrorists, never mind
physically trying to get the guy released ! Yes his 2 lady companions
were released. Pity about the poor sodding male !!
I cannot exactly agree with you guys on the travel aspect. He was, as
I understand it, a tourist on a tour party. Mali is not frontline Iraq and
lots of backpackers itch to see the World. Where does one draw the line ?
War zones obviously are out of the question - but the rest ?
Brit tourists love Malaysia but its full of Moslem fundamentalists, or the
Phillipines / Sri Lanka (freedom fighters) or Egypt/Tunisia (unstable govts).
Perhaps you expect us to visit only Western Europe and USA (and they
kicked me out of the latter for being a pornographer !)

So, Mr Thring, having talked and maybe cut a deal with these terrorists, whereby a ransom was paid in return for safe passage of the victims, what message would that have sent to the next band of blood thirsty nutters, that wanted to make a bit of "Cash?"

It would say, "Come on down, there's big money to be had kidnapping Westerners!"

As a man of letters, Mr Thring, you will know that the only people in the recent past who were good at dealing with kidnappers, were the Gestapo. As you know, having been issued with a similar threat, would have simply massacred a village full of innocents!

People in porn are worth even less Frank. So if I was you I wouldnt go travelling to those muslim countries just yet. They wouldnt even bother negotiating for the likes of us mate.

I remember hearing about that guy but the way the government see it, his life was negligible because he didnt mean anything as he didnt have a family so his demise would be quickly forgotten about with no one to protest how shit our government are protecting its citizens. If he had a mouthpiece for him then all kinds of shit would hit the fan because of it.

In short if those muslims were shocked they shouldve let him go so they are still shit for what they did and even worse because of it too

Please correct me if need be, but I was under the impression that HMG did not negotiate with terrorists.
One sure way not to get captured by these bastards is not to go their Godforsaken shithole countries in the first place.
I saw a superb documentary about the Somali pirates in the Indian Ocean and one bunch of "20 odd Fishermen"were captured by a Russian warship. When they found several Kalishnikovs and some RPG7's and lots of ammo the Russians chained these bastards to the ships structure and set scuttling charges. Went back to their ship and filmed the bastards going down with their ship.
Good fucking riddance and well done the Russian Navy.
Why don't all patrolling warships do this? If they did piracy would stop overnight if the bastards knew that when caught they would die.
