Crazy isn't it. As if you'll win people over to your point of view by blowing their loved ones to bits.

Sorry Deano, but Islamic terroists are definitely not interested in trying
to win unbelievers over to their point of view.
It is simply enough that you do not accept Allah and Mohammed as his
prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) etc.
This is the part of the huge problem we have in the West where our
modern minds cannot comprehend people who are so blinkered in their
mindset.
Being terrorists, a large part of what they do is based on revenge, which
is considered a sacred duty in wahhabism. Thus the Moscow outrage,
probably Chechen-inspired, is simply revenge. In Egypt - and personally
I am grateful for its utterly ruthless secret police who root out these
fanatics and show them no mercy (or the place would be worse than
Iran) - terrorists are also, in a large part, using bombs to get even with
their enemy, as they see it, the pro-Western secular State of Egypt and
its minions.

Now that is interesting. I thought the Gypos were just another bunch of incompetents. However, it would seem that their Secret Police are secret.
I still say keep away from the places where these atrocities are being carried out. Westerners are fair game for the warped bastards. One reason why I never go to any country where I would need a load of jabs and a course of anti malarial tablets.
Been there done that got the T shirt and I had enough at the taxpayers expense so I'm fucked if I'll pay myself to suffer it.
Alberta and British Columbia are safe and full of very nice people and I go there regularly, and I always advise anyone to try a drive from Calgary to Vancouver along the Trans Can Highway. Magnificent scenery and much better than the Rockies Tour by train. You can stop anytime when in a car. Problematical when on a train.

No malaria there Arginald. Dunno about the tap water mind. Still, derink plenty of beer and G&T's and you will survive.
Done me no harm even in the shitty places that I've been to.

Canadian friends of mine were in Mexico a few years ago and one evening in a decent bar restaurant they were enjoying a meal when two bandidos entered and shot the shit out of a Mex family, mum, dad and 3 kids a couple of tables away. My mates wife knew at first hand what trauma was all about. Needless to say Mexico is off their places to go to.
Belize was as close as I wanted to get to Mexico.

I went to Mexico for a holiday one year back in the '90s and had a great time.

No problems at all (apart from having the shits for 24 hours on Day 3) and felt perfectly safe the whole time.

But that was before all these drug wars kicked off, and I'd definitely think twice about going there now.
