Planet - you're right. I can't pick which bear you are. I assume you're not equipped with tits.
By the way, when I mentioned that if a police horse had been injured public sympathy would change suddenly, I'm surprised no one pointed out that Camilla was startled in her float.

David, you're assuming that the "protestors" were all injured by the police. Some could quite easily have been hurt in all the pushing, lobbing of missiles by their fellow "protestors", or were trampled underfoot in the melee. We just don't know.
You also seem to be assuming that Plod was solely to blame, but quite clearly that's bollocks. I'm not saying that all coppers are whiter than white, of course not. Or that they always get their tactics right. But what about all those wanky fuckers smashing windows, daubing graffiti, lighting fires, lobbing bricks, ripping up fences and all the rest of it? Presumably you condem those twats with equal vigour, no?
And as for that student who ended up having brain surgery, **of course** he/the protestors are going to claim he was hit by a truncheon. What the fuck else are they going to say? It's all good propaganda because there are always plenty of people with a built-in, anti-police bias and/or agenda who'll just take it at face value. But once again - we just don't know. We're still in the realm of "alleged" there and we only have his word for it.
And even if it does transpire that he was at the business end of a baton, why did that occur? Was it some maniac police horseman just randomly lashing out, or was he himself under attack? After all, we saw on TV at least one copper pulled off his horse and getting the shit kicked out of him.
Anyway, I look forward to your condemnation of that incident also, along with the violent actions of the "protestors" in general (fair-minded understanding bloke that you are).

You are being ironical, aren't you Eric? Just in case you aren't, I will respond.
"David, you're assuming that the "protestors" were all injured by the police. Some could quite easily have been hurt in all the pushing, lobbing of missiles by their fellow "protestors", or were trampled underfoot in the melee. We just don't know."
Quite, which is why I put a question mark at the end of the following sentence in the post you are replying to.
"One wonders who exactly came under sustained attack - police or protestors?"
And then you say
"And as for that student who ended up having brain surgery, **of course** he/the protestors are going to claim he was hit by a truncheon. What the fuck else are they going to say? "
Very true he could have run with such force, towards the police, throwing himself at them that he incurred the brain damage as a result of banging into the poor policeman holding his truncheon.
There have been over 300 people who have died in police custody in recent years and although cases against policeman have been brought, not one conviction has been secured. I guess what you would argue Eric, is that they killed themselves just to make it look bad for the police?
"Anyway, I look forward to your condemnation of that incident also, along with the violent actions of the "protestors" in general (fair-minded understanding bloke that you are)."
I condemn any unprovoked violence from the protestors as I do when it comes from the police.
Cheers

Come off it David, the implication of your statement was clear enough. I put it to you that your "question" was purely rhetorical.

ERIC REPLIES:
Now you're just being silly. My point was that we don't know whether the injury came from a blow from a police truncheon or not. And if it did, what were the exact circumstances? Who's to say that it didn't come from a lump of concrete thrown by another "protestor"? Like it or not David, the fact is that WE SIMPLY DON'T YET KNOW.

ERIC REPLIES:
Then that makes you a crap guesser, David. But all the same, nice selective quoting of facts for dramatic effect!! I presume you're referring to this:
In which case you'll note the bit where it says "Prosecutions were recommended against 13 officers based on "relatively strong evidence of misconduct or neglect", but none resulted in a guilty verdict."
That's just 13 out of the 333 you cite. It also notes that many of those have drug & alcohol problems (two big killers in themselves) and further notes that the trend is declining ("the number of deaths each year had fallen from 49 in 1998-99 to 15 in 2008-09, slightly increasing to 17 last year.").
I even acknowledged in my post above that I don't believe all coppers are whiter than white (you obviously missed that bit, do pay attention). As in any organisation you're bound to get some wrong 'uns. And clearly there are also problems in some areas that need addressing (improper risk assessment, for example). But your obvious insinuation that the ranks of the police forces in the UK are full of homicidal nutters murdering hundreds of detainees is - quite frankly - bollocks.

Wrong. It was a question mark.

I am not suggesting that in any way.
Your post has nothing to do with mine. If you want to get some stuff off your chest, start a new thread.
