Terrible ,terrible new labour, how terrible they were.
Minimum wage
Massivelly improved NHS because of serious investment
School rebuilt after falling to bits from 79-97,education standards improved.
Emplyment cut after years of rising under the tories
More police on the streets
Massive regeneration of our cities
Targetted benefits aimed at the poorest
I could go on,but i suppose it depends on what you want from a govt.
I wouldn't descrive myself as new labour,im far to the left of that, but im prepared to say they did a hell of a lot of good.
White British to be minority by 2066
Re: Jimbo
So you are willing to sacrifice your fundamental freedoms, fought for by our fathers and grandfathers in WW2, for extra jobs, a couple more NHS beds and a few fixed roofs on schools? All paid for, on borrowed money of course....
Well, I wouldn't.
Well, I wouldn't.

Lib Dem Cons and Civil Liberties
Talking about New Labour you state "when they were hell bent on removing our freedoms brick by brick."
Obviously this issue of civil liberties is key to you. So we are about 7 or 8 months into the Lib Dem Con government. Lots of laws have been passed. Emergency budgets introduced. Enormous spending reviews carried out etc. Major laws on education passed etc etc.
So what has been repealed in terms of Labour's measures impacting on civil liberties, as of now?
Cheers

Oh, don't be like that, Liz. You know what I meant, I know what I meant, I know you know what I meant and you know I know that you know what I meant. And if you didn't, you do now.

Re: Lib Dem Cons and Civil Liberties
There's a mountain of Draconian legislation introduced by your beloved New Labour junta. The Coalition has at least the right mindset to start dismantling it, rather than the mindset of New Labour, who would by now have introduced another pile of laws and amendments to impose more control on us.
Don't worry yourself, the reason the Coalition will dismantle the dictatorship, is so when the next election comes they can ask, "Do you really want to go back to a totalitarian state?"
Hopefully the answer will be a resounding "No!" and your pack of lying crooks will be in the wilderness for another 10 years.
One can but hope.

Re: Lib Dem Cons and Civil Liberties
Actually thinking on, it seems to be in the nature of the committed Socialist to wish to control. Like you David, you insist on goose stepping all over BGAFD trying to bend people to your will, you can't help it, you must have the final word.
The Liberal/ Tory mindset is to at least to attempt to decentralise government, this is their nature, or at least something they aspire to.
So you attempting to suggest that this lot will be as bad as New Labour and adopt all their laws is bollocks, because they hate and loathe New Labour and will do everything to destroy, all the laws they introduced, as a matter of principle.

Re: Lib Dem Cons and Civil Liberties
Okay Jim,
Thanks for the electioneering speech. I can do without the blah.
This is not a trick question. I dont know the answer myself and given that you are very keen on this subject I asked you the question.
What exactly have the Lib Dem Cons repealed so far with regard to the New Labour laws which restricted civil liberties?
If you do not know the answer, just say so and I will maybe try to broaden it outside this thread.
The reason I ask this question specifically is for example, I remember that the Lib Dems were against control orders, but Theresa May the Home Secretary is in favour. The Lib Dem COns were against the data monitoring plans of Labour but I recall reading somewhere that there were plans to revive these plans and money had been set aside for the project.
So do you know the answer to my question or not?
Cheers
