Question:

I just saw that we only received 2 votes for our World Cup bid and one of those votes was ours!

My question is does anyone think we were punished by FIFA for the BBC's expose of their corruption. The Sun,BBC hater, Rupert Murdoch's mouth piece suggested this would happen, the other day. Should the BBC have kept quiet so as not to harm our bid?

My personal view is that the FIFA panel will be all secret multi millionaires by 2018.

We were never going to get the vote anyway. Murdoch just sees an opportunity at a free punch and is taking it.

If the Panorama programme had come out months ago we'd complain it had come out before our bid really got into it's groove, and if it came out after the bid it would be dismissed as sour grapes after we lost. Coming out now, when a lot of the world's attention is on these results is probably for the best. Fifa's corrupt and as many people as possible should know about it.

It seems to me, the last 20 years has proved to be one long gravy train for those canny enough to have noticed and jumped on board. Actually,I think that England had a lucky escape.FIFA is trying to behave like a supra national state,where real heads of state,cow tow to them.Has the world gone mad? Both FIFA,football in general and this decision ,lacks any transparency.A few corrupt men in a room,are the sole arbiters of the future of the 'beautiful game' What a total shambles.

In the case of Russia,a 'donation' to FIFA or their corrupt senior members,probably helped.

Being a round ball novice, I'm curious why FIFA decide where two world cups will be in one hit. Given that the world can change fairly quickly, I would have thought they'd leave the 2022 cup host decision until, say, 2014. By then, the middle east might be one big radioactive, glazed moon-scape.

The Olympic committee leave it until 7 years before the big event and it seems to work pretty well. Do FIFA not like meetings?

I think its fair to say that any country that bids for the world cup should only do so if it has the infrastructure already in place otherwise its the equivalent of building 8 white elephants

World Cup = most watched event every 4 years

I hate to think that the public funded BBC has dry bummed our chances of getting 2018....we have the stadia and infrastructure to host the event at a week's notice. Russia is bad but Qatar? It has no sporting pedigree whatsoever. I am off to Betfred to put a tenner on Antartica for 2026 and Nepal in 2030.
