I know a guy that goes all over the world doing hostage negotiations.

Paying the ransom is very common and often paid for by uber rich private people.

The tales I get told would curl your toes!!!!

E.G. If someone gets killed the coffin is mainly bags of salt (with what remains of the hostage) so the weight is about right.

Lets hear it for the Somali community in this country who interceded on behalf of the Chandlers; and people of the village to which the hostages were taken prior to their release who, poor as they were, looked after them and had a collection amongst themselves as a way of expunging the shame they felt at how the pirates had besmirched their country in the eyes of the world.

Apparently Rachel Chandler was not a model prisoner and was given a severe beating by the pirates including blows to the face, a feisty British woman, lets hope they can soon put it all behind them and get on with their lives.
