Shite World Cup so far...........

Post by spunkie »

So just two more matches to go before we've seen every team, and yes it's very early days with plenty more matches to play out, but in all honesty what a shite world cup its been so far! Maybe its the new ball, maybe its the altitude or maybe something else but I cannot remember such a run of dull games. You know it's bad when two of Liverpool's most shite players are scoring for Holland! Not seen a decent free kick and any shot taken from 25 plus yards seems to end up in row Z! As for those irratating vuvuzelas (or whatever they're called).....

I blame the fucking plastic shite trumpets. Worst start to a World Cup I can remember, and I go back to 1970... no atmosphere apart from that fucking zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz, the standard of play is rubbish.

Agreed. Very poor so far.

Hurts me to say so, but Germany appear head and shoulders above the rest up to now, in terms of skilful, free-flowing, fast, non-scared football.

It can only get better. Can't it?

It seems like every team has gone into their opening game thinking "we MUST NOT lose this"... with the exception of Germany who went into their game with confidence and ended up scoring four.

I'm not sure about this new ball, either. Every World Cup there is a new ball supposedly better and rounder than any previous ball. Well I remember the 1966 World Cup and the ball seemed round then! In fact I don't remember a World Cup being played where the ball wasn't round! How much rounder can this ball be than the one used in Germany four years ago?

Maybe the high altitude has something to do with it (was it tested at high altitude?) but a friend has one of these new balls and in a kick about in the park it felt more like a beach ball than a football.

As for the vuvuzelas... fucking awful din, killing off any atmosphere. The World Cup is all about the colour and noise of fans from different parts of the world and their varied cultures. We should be able to hear the Ivorians beating their sticks together or the samba rhythms of the Brazilians when the two meet on Sunday. Instead it will all be drowned out by the vuvuzelas. I've got nothing against South African fans using them during their own games, to give us a flavour of the host nation, but they should be banned from all other games.

"But how to make Liverpool economically prosperous? If only there was some way for Liverpudlians to profit from going on and on about the past in a whiny voice."

Have to concur with the above statements.

FIFA are a bunch of cunts as well. Despite many complaints about them and the fact that they kill the atmosphere, they're afraid to ban those fucking vuvuzelas (probably because it's an African thing and they're afraid of being branded racist).

Yet at the same time, they're quick to eject from the stadium a bunch of Dutch chicks sitting at the front of one of the stands for wearing skimpy orange tops carying the logo a beer company that isn't one of the official sponsors.

In terms of World Cups I too go back as far as 1970, and this is by some distance the worst one I can remember, at least so far. Let's hope that it improves.

I tend to agree, even Brazil looked pretty ordinary in their opening game.

Is it any wonder that the monkey's confused?

Granted, I didn't see the Germany match. But find it surprising that people are talking up their performance so much - given that the opposition was only Australia.

I tend to agree that the Germans will probably be there or thereabouts at the end, but that's not so much because they're a great side, it has far more to do with the fact that they're generally a jammy set of cunts even when they play badly.

Tournament after tournament, they get an easy draw (World Cup 2002 being a classic example when they didn't have to play anyone until Brazil in the final), dodgy decisions go their way, they labour to 1-0 wins over lowly opposition who they should beat easily (on paper at least) or win on penalty shootouts.

Whereas we (England) labour to 1-1 draws against lowly opposition, and LOSE penalty shoots outs.

Remember Germany lost Ballack (captian) and Christian Traesch (his understudy) in the weeks leading up to the World Cup.

Anyone can have one lucky World Cup, but Germany have consistantly done well so it is down to more than luck.

As Gary Player once said "The more I practice the luckier I get".

Lol. You been on the glue again? I don't know how you've made a bunch of horns a race issue. They are annoying but this is an African World Cup. The whole point of taking it around the world is because each individual culture puts their own unique stamp on it. Remember the Japan & South Korean WC with those big stick things they waved and banded together?

Having said all that, they are annoying. The Spain vs Switzerland clash now doesn't seem to be as noisy.
