PHOTOSHOP QUESTION

If you want something to do image editing and compositing, give Paintshop Pro a try. It's much simpler than Photoshop and the results are just as good imo. I've used both and prefer PSP for its ease of use. I've done work for magazines that were composed entirely on Paintshop Pro 6, which is so old it came out when Win98 was around, but it still does everything I need to do.

Photoshop for tricks and filters, PSP for work. "Professionals" are always scathing of me when I say that, but while they're fucking about with the pen tool and paths and making sure they've got the tool settings right and blah blah blah, I'm having a cuppa with my feet up and the image finished.

I wish there was PSP for Mac!!! I loved that software when I was using PCs. So intuitive yet so powerful... unlike Photoshop, which, whilst powerful, is only of use to people who don't have a life and therefore don't mind spending all day at a computer wondering which layer they need to open to edit their photo!

There's a good few complaints about the recent versions of Paint Shop Pro (X2/3) - buggy, slow, resource hog etc, so you might be better off with an older version if that's all you need.

I use it and also use Photoshop, and while I'd agree it's certainly good enough for general editing purposes, I know I'm soon going to hit a wall only Photoshop can surmount if something more extensive or complex is required. Plus, Photoshop is a lot better and smoother running to use these days (CS4) than earlier models.

Much as I love some of Corel's other software, Photoshop is still the one.

The Corel versions of PSP are the ones to avoid!!! Get a version of PSP when it was still made by Jasc.

Indeed, I would make the same accusations of Corel as I do of Adobe... they buy other company's gems and turn it into overblown, over complicated and over priced software.

Have you tried running Windows under Parallels on your Mac? I've been running PSP6 on Parallels for a couple of years with no worries.

Why on earth would I want to infect my Mac by running Microshite software on it?

That's exactly how I felt, but I needed PSP so it had to be done.

John uses Paintshop Pro x 2 which he prefers to Photoshop because its so user friendly & does what it says on the tin without needing a degree to use it.
Some things are better in Photoshop hence the price but for what we do with it PSP wins hands down.
John opens the first pic etc then opens another & clicks copy..then go to the first pic & press "add as a new selection" and you have a pic that you can move/adjust size etc & save...hey presto one image on another.

That's what I love about it, you can do it all with the mouse buttons. The erase tool in PSP is so simple. Left click to rub out, right click to put back. No idea how to put things back in Photoshop, but I expect it's very long winded in comparison. I just did a quick google and couldn't find any info on how to do it.
