"When you sober up you will no doubt recall that Chelsea are debt free."
Abramovich loaned ?726million to Chelsea. As far as I am aware (see link below) the ultimate Chelsea holding company owes him that dosh.

You could of course drop the Guardian author of the above a line telling him to sober up.
Let me know how you get on.
Cheers

Re: Blackpool, Blackpool, Blackpool!!!!!
The Guardian story is wrong and has been denied by Chelsea. The club have responded to the article by stating that they do not owe any money to Mr Abramovich or any of his companies.
I'll leave it to you to drop the Guardian journalist a line, since you are the one who relies on their stories, not me. Some of us have more reliable sources of information.

Well done Blackpool.
Was stood with thousands of fans, watching on the big screen in the baking sun of Cardiff Bay this afternoon.
Such a close match and gutted for Cardiff City, but credit where credit's due. Hope Blackpool give it a good shot in the Premiership next season.

Ah, the usual crap spouted by those that know nothing.
Yes Chelsea are currently running at a loss but I'm not sure where you get this figure of ?700m debt from! Or is this figure arrived at from the cost to Abramovich of buying the club from Ken Bates, plus net transfer spend and then hoping that if RA leaves he wants to recoup this money? What makes you think Abramovich will get bored? Is this just wishful thinking? The guy is a businessman with many other interests, yet if he's not seen in his box at Stamford Bridge one week (probably because of attending to his various business interests) all the rags (and the numpties who read and believe them) claim that he's getting bored and will sell up. Utter nonsense. You only have to see his reaction when Chelsea score to see he's a genuine fan (he may not have started as such, but he is now!), and in spite of losing billions in the current economic downturn, he still has just as many billions left! He doesn't need to sell Chelsea and he doesn't want to sell Chelsea. His various spokesmen have been saying this since virtually the moment he bought the club!
As for Blackpool, like I said congratulations on your promotion, but to be honest, if I were a Forest supporter I'd be mightily pissed off. Forget about beating them in the league or in the play-offs, the simple fact is that they ended the season with more points than you. It's only because the Football League contrived this ridiculous Play Off scheme that you got promoted, not because, over the course of a season you actually deserved to be promoted.
And this time next year, you'll be back where you deserve to be.
My remark about Cardiff had nothing to do with their finances... just my dislike of Cardiff as a club, to which can be added the fact that they are Welsh and shouldn't be in the English leagues in the first place (just as neither Israel nor Turkey should be involved in anything to do with Europe, be it political like the EC or football like UEFA)

Yes exactly, that is David Johnson's argument. He contends (based on a Guardian article) that the total amount that Chelsea has cost Mr Abramovich is ?726m and that Chelsea therefore owe him this amount.
Chelsea statement: "'Contrary to media reports today, other than a small residual balance Chelsea Football Club and our parent company Chelsea FC plc are debt free and do not owe any money to our shareholder (Fordstam Ltd). Neither do we owe any money to Roman Abramovich."

For the sake of the town I hope the club has some sound financial management. Take it easy at first and don't give everyone a 300% pay rise. Worst case scenario is Pompey PT2.

Ah yes, of course the most reliable source of information about how a company is doing financially is the company themselves. Everyone knows that. How well are Lehman Brothers doing? Yeah, they are doing real great. As for Northern Rock, what a fantastic company. And Royal Bank of Scotland what a fantastically successful company they are. If they carry on like they are doing they will be as good as Enron!
Well if Chelsea denied it, then it must be true.
I will leave you to your child-like naivety.
