So many to choose from U2 to the Jam, SLF to Guns n Roses but as its an air guitar request for me it has to be the one and only Quo:
Down Down, Caroline, Paper Plane, Roll Over Lay Down, Mystery Song , Hold You Back, Rockin' All Over the World, Whatever You Want , What You're Proposin' the list just goes on and on. !grin!

Andy, "Where the streets have no name" from U2. !thumbsup!
Also like the intro to "Thunder Road" (The Boss) and agree with Mike about "Sweet Child o Mine"
Also love the opening lyrics to Bon Jovis "Bed of Roses" but thats a thread hike so i'll leave it there

Re: Favourite song intro's
A good head-scratcher of a question, albeit a totally pointless one- too many songs for me to mention. If the intro makes the song, which for many it does, we may as well name our favourite songs!
I'm no prog-rocker, but a semi-slow build-up to a rattling crescendo or a belting chorus is always good in my book too; eg, Geno by Dexy's Midnight Runners, Rebellion (Lies) by The Arcade Fire, Hey jude/ A Day In The Life by The Beatles, The Chain by Fleetwood Mac etc etc.
Fave intros of late:
What Difference Does It Make?- The Smiths- the hum, guitar, then smashing drum!!!
Wrong 'em Boyo - The Clash. The mad seaside organ followed by some wacky ska, grrreat!!!
Do It Again/ Wouldn't It Be Nice- The Beach; feelgood surf-pop riffs
Good Vibrations- Brian Wilson
Virginia Plain/ Remake-Remodel- Roxy Music
Heroes/ Golden Years- David Bowie "Don't let me hear you say life's taking you nowhere, Aaaaaaaaaaaannnngel.............."
Take Me Out- Franz Ferdinand; a foot-tapper
Cars- Gary Numan; emotioneless robotic electro bliss
Love Will Tear Us Apart- Joy Division; distinctive!
Satin Chic- Goldfrapp; one of many good intros from Alison and Will
*puff, pant..... feck it, a few more..............*
Ace of Spades- Motorhead!! Most raucous intro ever?!?!
True Faith 94- New Order Drum and synths tour de force
Halcyon- Orbital..........................................
.........................ach, why dae ah bother? There's just too many and I could be here at my lappy all feckin' year!! !grin!

A crescendo is a build-up.
I'm almost afraid to say it on this site, but the word you are looking for is "climax".

She Sells Sanctuary by the Cult- we had it as our 'wedding song'. Caused a few whispers amongst the grey brigade but it was worth it.

Well Fudgey, as far as I was concerned, your only "crime" was against music theory.
I've given up on everyone's English! !happy!

Re: Favourite song intro's
I've just served a 2-yr sentence in HMV for crimes against music theory. Girls Aloud are awaiting Life in McDonalds for similar crimes, and GBH (Grievous Bloody Harmonies).
Re: Favourite song intro's
Funny, I always thought GBH was a rural offence - Gobbling Behind Hedges.
