Favourite song intro's

Can any Focus song be considered to have an "intro" in the strictest sense?

I love their music, so don't get me wrong... I'm not having a go at them (or you). But other than Thijs van Leer's yodelling and falsetto "singing", there are no lyrics. Traditionally, an intro is that bit of music that introduces a song prior to the lyrics.

Absolutely.My favourite Madness intro's are Baggy Trousers,Tomorrow's Just Another Day,House Of Fun.I would include Return Of The Las Palmas 7,but that would be silly,as that song was 99% instrumental !wink!dynatech wrote:

Possibly the finest is the introduction to Sweet Jane on Lou Reed's Rock N Roll Animal album - a guitar duet by Steve Hunter and Dick Wagner (both players later with Alice Cooper).

The album is one of the best documents of the recorded electric guitar that we have.

I listen quite alot to Virgin Radio at work as i like my Rock,Indie and 80's music.But i do get the hump when certain songs are overplayed.The one's that Virgin are guilty of overplaying are 'Iris' by the Goo Goo Dolls,'Chasing Cars'(Snow Patrol) 'Wake Me Up'(When September Ends(Green Day) and Mr Brightside(The Killers).All quality songs,but can get very boring when one hears them 5/6 times a day.

The majority of these are not actually intros at all; they are just "the start of the song". In other words, the riff or chord sequence is simply a figure which later returns as a verse, chorus or hook, but without vocals and, often, drums.
