Back in 2001, my then lady and I -working for the same employer and told to take our leave in February- decided to go Midlands-York-Edinburgh-Blackpool-Midlands in 8 days, using the then Travel Inns.

Snow and foot and mouth scuppered that! We spent two nights snowed in Killington Lake services on the M6- where there was no booze!

But two points I will always say to people. Firstly, we slept naked in bed beneath just a sheet and duvet- the heating was that good that it melts a foot of snow outside the double glazed windows. We sweat in bed like pigs and had the hell !wink! of having to shower each other down the next morning.

Secondly, we stayed at one of their Blackpool Inns. We were right by the generator or air-conditioning, which was outside our window. I slept like a log- my lady got little sleep- and the next day, I asked for a full refund. Given without quibble or problem on the spot.

They are Premier Inns now- and you still can't beat them!

Stayed in a Premier Travel Inn near Gatwick Airport.

Just as the receptionist asked "have you heard about our good night guarantee" a stunning blonde receptionist walked out of the back office - very unfortunate timing.

I signed up and was highly dissappointed !!!! !happy!

I know it well, Red - been there many times as it's literally just down the road from my UK "base" (S. Yorks / N. Derbys border).

Still a nice watering hole in a very nice spot, though the food's not quite as good these days since it became part of a chain.

Let me know next time you're in the area - and I'll try and swing by with my camera !grin! !grin! !grin!.

I've stayed in various Travelodges across the country, not really had a great deal of aggro with them, but they're not all of the same standard in terms of facclilities but the prices are quite reasonable compared to some overpriced B&B's and Hotels.

Travelodges are famous haunts for cheating men and women to have their 'liasions',so not really much to grumble about if one is using a Travelodge for that purpose or if they're just using the room for a few hours.....not that i'm implying that anyone on here is doing just that !wink!.

Why? Because he's a personality with loads of cash to spend.

You'd be surprised just where many entertainers do stay when on the road - some because they don't want to spend tons of cash, others to try to be as anonymous as possible - which is much more achievable in a bog standard bed factory with one receptionist and few, if any, public areas than in a five star hotel.
