The right to stop and search
Re: The right to stop and search
Police have always recorded details of people they stop and search, although not on the extremely complex form they now use.
Re: The right to stop and search
It's mystic how I can tell they fuck things up for people.
There is planned to be an all-out strike of council workers in Birmingham from sometime in February. The staff have had 'Single Status' used against them to cut jobs and pay in real terms!
Birmingham is run by: a Tory and supine LibDem coalition.

Which admittedly is a stupid instrument of record and which will, I hope, be withdrawn.

Re: The right to stop and search
I think the problem has reachd pidemic proportions that something dramatic had to be done.
I'm in favour of this and yes , occasionally this kind of thing is abused but there are channels for that to be dealt with also.
And yes most likely the stop and searches will find weapons on a black youth more than a white one (though my mind belives it s more 50/50 these days with enough white kids acting blacker than the black kids with their baggies and hoodies)
Personally I dont have any issue being stopped by a policeman...Just seconds talking to me he probably wont be discussing what I have in my pockets.
Sam, this may not be South Africa in the 70's but if you've been to some places in London you would think so. I know people who wouldnt hurt a fly generally carrying something to defend thmselves if the shit was going down.
No one wants to get caught unprepared and be a victim to some punk thug.
So the police might inconvenience a few people, so what?...Dont you think its about time they warranted that huge budget every year doing something to make the streets safer?
On the other hand, something should be done in the community to provide more facilties that the young and restless youths can get more involved with. Not all kids are happy staying at home watching tv or playng xbox and to add to this, it looks like a lot of the older generation dont want to mix with the younger ones so of course there will be a generation divided and when you get this, some people dont even regard older folk with any respect because of this and see them as obstacles or even victims.
You only have to look at kids killng kids these days as an indicator of being desensitised to humanity and apathetic. We have some deep seated problems going on that will not be corrected until people make a concerted effort.
Let me ask you lot a question? Have any of you evn tried to talk to any of these hoodlum types?
You havent because you fear being robbed. But unless you try to talk to them you might get som first hand insight into their world. People are usually products of their environment, alienated by misunderstanding. I'm not defending them all but something has to be done becaus the bad guys are th ones winning on the strts and the one thing I believe...No one was born evil. Not even the devil himself if you know the story behind that.
Not even Adolf Hitler.
People living in fear are part of the problem, not the solution.

Well said Terry.
Out of interest could I ask if you've looked at the councils community safety strategy for your area please?
Cheers

Re: The right to stop and search
Me too.Why should The Old Bill need long-winded paperwork to stop and search a person they suspect is a menace to society?
If they have nothing to hide,no weapon or drugs, then they have nothing to worry about.
Like i said, the day i vote Tory will be a cold day in hell. But Cameron at least is laying down these plans that Jaquie Smith is too lilly-livered and up herself to do herself.
I can't see what the difficulty is in stop and search !confused!
And trust the BBC only to use black people to debate the issue.colonel wrote:

Well said.I was no angel when i was younger(who was?),but i knew where to draw the line.
And how can we talk to these young offenders-when they don't have the concept of basic English themselves, instead talking as if they're Vicky Pollard or that other child nutter from Catherine Tate's show.
Maybe they should bring back National Service?.Afterall, the army is all about dicipline, not becoming a crazed killing machine.Alice In Blunderland wrote:
