You need to watch it right from the beginning, Steve.

That's the mistake I made initially, because if you see one of the "alien colonisation" episodes (which make up roughly one third of the entire series) in isolation, chances are you'll be left scratching your head when the end credits roll.

When it was originally screened, I thought it was massively overrated and couldn't understand what the fuck all the fuss was about, or what was going on in some of the episodes that I happened to watch.

So I gave up.

Then about 3 years ago, I caught a couple of the "stand-alone" eps on one of the satellite channels and was blown away by how good they were. Of course - as with all long-running shows - there are some crap episodes in there as well. But I happened to catch a couple of very good ones, and that rekindled my interest in the show, so I bought the Season 1 box set and subsequently all the others (9 seasons in total).

Right now the Mrs and I are about a third of the way into Season 8, and when we get to the end we plan to go back and watch all the "alien colonisation" episodes again.

I'd definitely recommend you give it another shot. But you need to start with the very first epsiode and then stick with it - sometimes more questions arise than are answered, but eventually it all starts to fall into place.

Hey

Gotta be honest and say I struggled with it,but probably mainly for the reasons I struggle with ALL U.S drama series I try and get into.

Firstly they run for years and years. Secondly as soon as the first series of any thing from over the pond is a hit on tereteral TV, Sky buy the rights to it and hold it to ransom and thirdly the BBC and Channel four start moving them around the schedule (sp?) making them almost impossible to follow.

I watched the first series and thought it was fecking stunning, but after that it fell victim to all of the factors above. I would drift in and out of it when I managed to catch it,but it started to make less and less sense. Real shame.

Along with "The Saprano's" and "24" I wish I could one day just buy all the series boxed sets and get follow them at my leisure. Who knows maybe one day....

Cheers

At least your honest Steve56

Xfiles was a good suspense drama that built and built tillthe point where you needed a hard drive to keep track

Try watching the old UFO series now that was complex or maybe it was my 8 year old brain couldn't handle the concepts

Jumped the shark in the second season when it went from being about all sorts of unexplained shit and UFO`s to Gillian Anderson. They writers had no idea what the fuck was going on I think and the viewers had even less of a chance.

Bukkake shots where you are with a few other guys...is fucking gay.

In fact, about pulling trains with a woman...you wanna have sex with other guys and mix your sperm with theirs...you're just using a woman as a conduit.

I think a new film is planned with Mulder & Scully, which will hopefully wrap it up (a bit).
I thought some of the episodes were absolutely brilliant but it did start to get a bit too complex and ended up taking itself far too serious in the end.
PEOPLE think Stephen Hawking is so clever, but when you ask him a question and he is typing in the answer on his little screen, how do we know he isn't just looking up the answer on the Internet?
