It's about proportionality.

I'm sure no-one here would begrudge footballers a decent wedge (say 130 grand a year, which ain't to be sneezed at) or even - for the top players - a VERY decent wedge (say 130 grand a month).

But that sort of money a WEEK is fucking obscene and totally out of any sense of reason or rationality (yes, you could argue the same about other sports / professions, but we're talking about footballers here so I'm sticking to footballers).

It's also taking the piss out of the paying public - the ones who are still able to afford to pay to pass through the turnstiles every week, that is.

And mucho: Yes they may be "entitled" to it. But that still doesn't make it morally right.

If you believe this to be obscene and an absolute disgrace I have some ideas which might help you register your abhorrence.

1), Don't subscribe or cancel your subscription to Sky.
2), Don't purchase any of the merchandise associated with football.
3), Don't assist Murdoch in any manner, shape or form. Eg, don't purchase any of News Corporation's products which range from the Sun and Times newspapers to 20th Century Fox movies.

Agreed, it would take a while for this mass boycott to have effect, and it would needed to be sustained over a long period of time.

People should be paid what they earn, and pissing about playing a couple of GAMES of football does not equate to ?150,000 by any stretch of the imagination.
A nurse gets around ?15,000pa I believe, the PM is on around ?150,000pa (that's after tax, and doesn't include his pension package or other perks). To give somebody who plays football the same amount of money per week as the Prime Minister is paid in a year is like saying that twatting about with a ball is at least 52 times as important as running the country, or at least 520 times as important as being a nurse and doing all the potentially lifesaving things that entails. On top of that footballers don't even work full time, they do 10 hours a week at the very most, training AND matches.

I rant about people sat at home not even looking for a job, but when you look at their prospects, working hard for 40+ hours per week for the next 40 years of their life to earn an average of around ?19k pa, and then look at all these primadonna footballers, actors and "musicians" who are given vast, vast fortunes for doing a very small amount of what most people wouldn't even consider as being work, can you really blame then for not wanting to spend graft for a living?
