That's a modern day obscenity. He and his ilk received that vast amount for doing what? Kicking a small ball about! What about nurses pay and conditions? They live on a mere pittance when compared to these money grabbing bastards!

Sheer insanity!

According to the Telegraph this is nett. He pays ?82000 a month in Tax and NI. On that money I would never feel listless, need a week off after 2 games in 4 days and get my hair dyed another colour from Carrot Orange!!

A friend of mine, a retired Barclays manager used to look after Liverpool FC when he worked in Scouseland. He assures me their players were on a two tier pay deal. 100% of contract if they made Champions League, down to 60% of contract for some players if they failed to get there.

What is scary is these guys get bonuses, for playing say 20 first team games, scoring more than 10 goals, winning, drawing away from home etc.

The majority of the money comes from Blue Chip sponsors and SKY TV. Take away SKY and the Premier League would shut down overnight.

Oh yeah.......I'd say Riise is underpaid tbh. A lot of the regulars at West Ham were on more than that, and they weren't in the Champions league, but fighting relegation last year.

Riise's being taken for a mug!!!

Riise is one of the most sought-after fullbacks in the Prem, I thought he'd be in the ?50-70K bracket.

It's not that much really when you consider the extent of Jon Arne's gambling habit that has to be paid for!!

Its relative to the amount of income that they as the product generate for the BUSINESS

If TV broadcasters want to pay gazillions for the rights then why shouldn't the players get their slice of the pie

Its their career,no different to any other profession(dedication, sacrifices) except the public is so obsessed by the sport it generates obscene amounts of cash

You wan to talk obscene check out merchant banking and in particular macquarie bank...millionaire paradise at the expense of the public
