They were big in America as well in the late 70's/early 80's. Made something of a comeback in the latter part of that decade.
Great band. Always loved power-pop myself. Liked the bands they influenced as well like Enuff Z Nuff and The Pursuit of Happiness

That was George Martin who said that after hearing Zanders vocals prior to him producing their album 'All Shook Up'

Fucking HUGE over there on the back of some stunning live albums
> Had some absolute classic songs ie Don't be Cruel,The Flame etc
Alas, there 2 biggest hits in years were not written by them, Don't be Cruel is the Elvis cover and the Flame is one of those Diane Warren knock offs
First saw them support Motley Crue in 1986 and they blew Crue away.....totally!!
Anyone want any CDrs of this band, let me know, I have 'em all

Re: Cheap Trick
I had read an article on them back in the 1990s and that song writing as far as I knew wasn't all their fault. They wanted to write on the harder side of rock but the record company saw them as a more pop rock type band. Listening to their first album and Live At Budakon should have told us what they really wanted to play and where their music was headed. Oh and they hail from Rockford Illinois, about an hour northwest of Chicago.
Re: Cheap Trick
Used to drink with a couple of them.
Good guys.

Just like a record company
Stifle creativity and just repeat the same successful formula
Its still happening today sadly
One of my favourites had a run in with the record execs over exactly the same thing and didn't budge creatively...contract terminated..even though a new album was all but finished
