I've only read the book twice. Couldn't face it again.

I prefer my Dystopias rather cheerier than that----Brave New World, Farenheit 451.

Another gaping area of my ignorance, I'm afraid.

Currently we live in this strange halfway house between metric and imperial. Some things are weighed and measured in metric and others by the old imperial way.

With the metric system it should be far easier to understand becuase everything is divisable by ten.

I recall when decimalisation was first introduced in February 1971. Prior to it starting the government, for many months, ran a high profile advertising and public information campaign informing everyone of the change in currency. There were, of course, the reactionary sceptics who predicted that the new system wouldn't work - but they were very soon proved wrong!
