It's been a great 10 years, Sid.
1979- 1990 was total hell and Britain is STILL suffering from what happened then.
Germany is a prosperous country compared to the UK, if you'd been there you'd notice immediately....
It looks well enough and they have the biggest economy in Europe. It should be the most prosperous but growth rates, unemployment and inflation tell a different story at present.
If Europeans think we're 'backward' then God only knows what they thought of us between 86 & 97. Most working class tradesmen were travelling to Germany, Poland, Italy and Greece in their masses looking for work only 15-20 years ago and now most tradesmen would baulk at the idea as there's so much prosperity right here. It's a complete U-turn these days.
If Europe thinks the UK is 'backward' then they're 'backward' in coming to that conclusion!
Maybe Germany looks so nice because they benefited so greatly from WW2? The UK was just left with a lot of dept. Finally our debt is paid off and we're stronger economically. What will Germany look like in 20 years time compared to the UK if things carry on as they are?

Labour's record on these is not great, but it is not too bad either.
At least the waiting lists went down...

Even more to the point: "integrated transport policy". That is a clear failure of new Labour - they did absolutely zilch about that. Local public transport outside London is a disgrace. Admittedly, Thatcher is to blame for that but Labour had a full decade to do something about it and they did not.

Congrats to them for doing that.
Strange you did not mention the Iraq war, and the shambles that went before to sell it to the people (and the parliament) of the UK. Problem is: I somehow doubt the Tories would have given Bush the middle finger, had they been in power.
