The reason why Britain is the country with the most serious drug problem is because of the numbers of people who use them.

Regulation and / or legislation does not force people to take them.

Lamb to the slaugter, I use to caine canabis all day sometimes because I believed it calmed me down and prevented me from getting angry. Well years later I know it was bollox. I am anti cannabis/dope now, I can see its effects every day in people arround me, young tallented people who suffer from memory loss, laziness, mood swings etc. anyone who says it should be legalised has no clue. I do agree alcohol is also an issue but its already legal and to the majority it has very little effect. If you abuse it you get punished. Infact the hangover is a big punishment.

Anyone who belives they can get stoned and be in control is niave.

My stance on things like alcohol and drugs is that they all cause problems and just because some are not legal at the moment, it doesn't mean they should become legal.

If I had my way, all alcohol, caffeine, drugs (all of kinds), nicotine etc etc would all be banned. However I also don't believe in Prohibition either.]

I do think that a lot of crime is caused by people getting money for drugs and this needs to be looked at and dealt with. Surely providing clinics where users could go and get drugs for free and be kept under supervision would make things a lot safer.

What I really hate is coke, not not a-cola. It has turned into the drug of chavs and you can't go into a nightclub toilet without 2-3 lads being in a cubicle snorting.

I personally think that having a really fit girlfriend (or boyfriend) is much better than any drug available.

True, but only because alcohol use is easier to obtain, legal, and is used more regularly, by more people.

Lets say we lived in a society where skunk was always legal and alcohol had been banned over the last 100 years. Lets say 20% of the population went to an alcohol dealer every once in a while to get drunk with a few friends in the house while the general (say 60-75%) public met up in public places spending all their free cash on skunk and getting stoned off their faces all weekend from 8pm till 4am.

We may then have a minority of illegal drinkers saying skunk gives society more problems, while alcohol is pretty harmless.

You can't really compare alcohol and an illegal substance thats not as widely accepted and used in our culture................because rightly or wrongly, alcohol use is 'BIG' in British/Irish culture, and thus, causes more problems due to it's widespread use.

Lets remember: Any adult in the UK can purchase alcohol. Regardless of previous behavioural problems or mental state. Whether they're angry, frustrated, depressed, physically abusive, whatever. With alcohol being so easily obtainable by just about anybody, it's bound to cause havoc.

I mean, think about it. Sugar kills more people than lightning strikes do, so sugar does more harm to society, if you want to follow that line of thought. In reality it would be stupid to compare them though. !laugh!

You're right. Legal or illegal, people use the drugs they want. The difference is that if a drugs illegal, the supply chain is run by gangsters and is completely beyond government regulation. If it's legal, the government can regulate the drug and offset some of the dangers.

Alcohol is far more dangerous than cannabis. If alcohol was illegal, the supply would be taken over by criminals, as Al Capone did in the US during prohibition. However good/bad a drug is, I believe it's always better to have it legal and controlled, rather than illegal and out of control.
